OK, hopefully the final problem of the night. After I installed xfce4 and whisker menu, I cannot install any software. See pic below:
sudo apt install policykit-1 policykit-1-gnome
Replace $USER with your actual username:
sudo chown $USER:$USER /usr/bin/gnome-software

I had the same problem but I could install some of the programs ... I just related it to some programs wouldn't let you open in XFCE ....
But now I see the light and I will use the commands you posted above .... thanks
