Zoom meeting window doesn't open

Hello everyone

Since my switch to linux (Zorin 17.3), I'm no longer able to join zoom meetings - not even in my browser (Brave). Everything works smoothly and the right pre-windows pop up (like checking data boxes and choosing a name), but at the very moment when the window with the meeting itself should appear, nothing happens.

Curiously, if I try again, zoom says: "To join another meeting you have to leave this one". So apparently zoom thinks I am in the meeting, but I can't see it anywhere!

I installed zoom just as mentioned in other threads (using gdebi and the zoom package from their website).

Would be awesome, if someone had any idea that I could try.

Wayland is still in development, despite it becoming the new default display manager since Zorin OS 17.

It is common that on Wayland, Zoom window will either not be properly rendered or will appear off screen.

Can you try logging in from your login screen on Xorg and then testing Zoom?

From your login window, clicking the gear icon will offer your options on which display manager to use. If you see Zorin Desktop and Zorin on Wayland, than the first is the Xorg choice.
If you see Zorin Desktop and Zorin on Xorg, then the second choice is Xorg.

If you do not see the gear icon, try selecting to log in as another user - that should bring up the icon - after selecting your desktop choice, you can log in as your normal user account.

If Brave doesn't work with Zoom, you could try using Google chrome (.deb from their page). Zoom work for me on it.

Welcome to the Forum!

Beneath @Storm's Suggestion with Google Chrome, I would suggest to try Firefox to see if it might be a Problem with the Chromium Base.

Do You have it from here:

If yes, what did You choose on the Linux Choice. And because Zorin 18 is finally released now, I would suggest to try it there, too.

Thanks for all of your input!
@Aravisian Xorg didn't make a difference unfortunately
@Ponce-De-Leon Yes, that's where I got it from. I selected the Ubuntu version, was that a mistake?
It works now in the browser of firefox! Only downside: the browser doesn't find my camera.

Steps undertaken to solve camera problem:

  • Followed steps outlined in Camera Support · linux-surface/linux-surface Wiki · GitHub
  • Installed libcamera from latest source via git
  • Installed mason via pip: $ sudo pip3 install -U meson
  • Command cam now lists both front and back cameras
  • The app Cheese is working now and able to show and switch between both cameras
  • However, Firefox does not recognize the cameras, despite setting media.webrtc.camera.allow-pipewire to true in about:config

Steps undertaken to solve Firefox camera problem:

  • Followed the steps How do I set up PipeWire on Zorin OS? to install pipewire
  • Firefox still does not recognise the cameras
  • Installed wireplumber and ran "systemctl --user enable wireplumber" as well as "systemctl --user start wireplumber"
  • Wireplumber does not recognize the cameras
  • Set the environment variable "export LIBCAMERA_PIPEWIRE=1", but problem remains

So all in all, I would be happy already if I could zoom in my browser, at least with video. Any suggestions?
