My current Zoom version is 6.3 and it clearly says there is an update to 6.4 but I can not seem to be able to update to it. How is it done on Zorin OS 17.2 Pro?
Do you happen to know how you installed Zoom? Is it installed as a deb, snap, or flatpak? If it's either of the latter 2, then it will most likely continue to say that there will be an update available until those package versions get updated to the newest version.
In the latter 2 example, you would not be able to click the "update" button and have it work, since they're sandboxed and specifically packaged for different versions of the software. Does the software not work currently due to the 0.1 version difference?
The software works fine. This is a screenshot of what I downloaded from the App store. So, I am guessing I have to wait for them to update it?
If you try to install it from Zoom directly, Zorin is not listed as a Linux you can choose from. Ubuntu, Debian and Mint are there.
Yeah so that's a flatpak version (you can see just below "Open"). That version would require waiting for whoever maintains that to update it. If you click the down arrow, if there's an option for Zorin or otherwise, that would be best. But if you went to zoom, the Ubuntu file should work (as Zorin is based on Ubuntu 22.04). So you could uninstall the flatpak, and go that deb route if you're wanting the latest version.
Personally I avoid flatpaks unless it's an annoying package with tons of dependencies, but that's just me. It can cause issues with permissions as well, but its been alright for me in that regard.
Another thing to note, any program that doesn't have a verified checkmark isn't actually by the team responsible for the original application. If you go to "Show More" it will probably say something along the lines of "this app is not affiliated with Zoom" or something to that effect. Usually it's fine, but if you're very security minded, I don't like trusting stuff like that.
Sadly, i downloaded the Ubuntu version from the Zoom site and when you launch it, the application that is installed is the flatpak.
The latest version available as a Flatpak is 6.3.11.7212.
Do note that this is not maintained by Zoom themselves, so it may take some time until this is updated. In fact, you might want to be extra careful since this isn't even verified.
As @applecheeks37 suggests, I'd uninstall the Zoom version that comes from Flatpak and use the one found at their website.
Or try Jitsi instead, works best with browser with Chrome extensions and you need a GitHub account to host a 'room'. Free for personal use.
Did You chooses the right Ubuntu Version? Zorin 17 is based on Ubuntu 22.04. But there exists Ubuntu 24, too.
