Zorin 16.1 not autoconnecting to 802.11ac WiFi with 802.11 b/g/n adapter

After installing the latest Zorin 16.1 Lite Education version on a couple of older computers (2008 iMac & Lenovo T420) with 802.11 b/g/n adapters I have found that it will not connect to my 802.1ac network unless I go into the Advanced Network Configuration and change the WiFi band manually to B/G (2.4GHz). After that it auto-connects after restart without issues.

This is new behaviour as I didn't have this problem with the 16.0 release. In fact I don't think I had this problem with the initial 16.1 release but I can't be sure.

Any ideas?

If it worked before and not now. Have you recently done a OS Update that updated the linux kernel version?
Have you tried booting the previous kernel on via Additional Options on startup?
