Zorin 16.3 Installer Problems

Hi guys im having problems with my Zorin 16.3 Pro installer, I recently put a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro nvme into my Msi Raider GE78 HX 13VI, everything works on Zorin 17 Core, detects harddrive, have an OS running, But I have a premium Zorin 16.3 purchase that I'd like to use but when I run the installer, absolutely zero detection of my harddrive, I've tried running in Try me mode and updating all drivers, nothing, tried various bios options, no fix.

Anyone have a work around for this or a Zorin OS 17 Promo code/discount to upgrade given the headache?

Hi and welcome.

Zorin 16 was a fork of Ubuntu 20.04, so I searched using Brave A.I. search engine via Mojeek search engine which came back with:

Ubuntu 20.04 Fails to Recognize NVMe SSD

When installing Ubuntu 20.04, if your system does not recognize a 4 TB Samsung NVMe SSD, you can try several troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings: Ensure that the SATA operation mode is set to AHCI rather than RAID. Changing this setting might resolve the issue, but it may also affect Windows installations if you are dual-booting.
  2. Update Firmware: Make sure both the SSD firmware and the UEFI firmware are up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues.
  3. Use Latest Kernel: If possible, use a newer kernel version that might have better NVMe support. You can try booting with a live USB of a newer Ubuntu version or a kernel with HWE (Hardware Enablement) support.
  4. Driver Issues: If the SSD is not recognized during installation, it might be due to missing drivers. You can try adding the necessary drivers manually during the installation process.
  5. Disk Formatting: If the SSD is not detected after installation, open the “Disks” application, format the disk, and create a new partition table. Ensure the disk is partitioned and formatted with a file system that is recognized by Ubuntu.
  6. Check for Known Issues: Some SSD models have known issues with certain Linux distributions. Check online forums and the manufacturer’s support pages for any known issues or workarounds specific to your SSD model.

If you’ve already tried these steps and the issue persists, consider reaching out to the Ubuntu community forums or Samsung support for more specific advice related to your particular model and configuration.

Ive tried plenty, i've got a gemini advanced subscription i think ill try to get it to blend the drivers from the 17 iso into my 16, unless anyone else has ideas, i recently decided to drop windows due to its garbage and refuse to put it on my nvme entirely, maybe i can virtualbox samsung magician?

Can you please be specific?
In the Try Zorin mode, have you tried loading the modules manually?

sudo modprobe nvme

sudo modprobe nvme-core

Out of frustration and the fact i've got the money might as well support the cause and up the $$ for 17.

Zorin OS 16.3 LTS support ends in April this year. At this juncture in time, I only recommend Zorin OS 16, to folks who have older hardware, that can't be supported by OS 17. For LTS support at this time, I recommend OS 17.
