Zorin 16 Beta - Grub menu does not show

Installed ok but caused Windows to Green Screen. Had to run windows repair and fixed so would boot. Goes straight to Windows 10...Newbie here so not sure what to do to get Grub menu to show. I have tried the command line prompt from windows and did not fix. I ran Zorin live from usb and run boot repair.

The default repair of the Boot-Repair utility would not act on the boot.

In case needed, it's a Lenovo C940

You had your drive set up in a raid array? It looks like you're having an issue because the installation wiped your raid configuration. I could be wrong, but that's what I'm getting from the error messages. In windows, copy out anything in the array and disband it. Go back into live cd, perform the boot repair, make sure it boots, then go back into windows and recreate your array and restore from backup. There may be another way, but I'll have to look further into this.

If you're trying to install to a raid, you may want to look this over:

Thanks, I didn't even think of raid. It has the Intel Optane Storage? Is that it and I need to disable it?

Intel Optane Memory | Speed Up Your PC | Lenovo US

You will not be able to dual boot until this feature is turned off in your Bios. Linux doesn't support the caching feature that this does for windows. You could possibly use it as extra hard drive space after you setup Linux, since it'll be faster than hard drive access, but that's up to you. Something i found you may find interesting or helpful:

But this is for installing windows on virtual machine to run in Linux. In short, you lose this functionality when you choose Linux.

Yeah, I will turn off in Bios and then try again. Thanks for the article as well, That looks very helpful, I might try that as well.

If you do that you will be removing your Windows partition and formatting it completely for Linux until you have the VM installed. Just FYI. Until then you may have to live with certain things until Windows is configured so you can change some Windows only available configurations (keyboard lighting colors, fan adjustments, Optane). You may have to disable optane in windows as well in order to not corrupt your installation of Windows (won't matter if you're doing a clean wipe).

I think I will hold off on windows in VM for now and just turn off in windows as well..I screwed up and deleted the partition that was created for Zorin and it hosed my windows as well...so tonights project is reinstall windows and then Zorin..I know I have to do Windows 1st to dual boot.

I do recommend you take a look at partitioning, using Something Else on the installation. Some things that may help:

Thanks for the help. Worked great. Would have never figured out the Intel Optane issue on my own  I went with 15, I assume no auto way to upgrade to beta 16 correct? Now to get playing!!

also i cannot complete the installation, grub-efi-amd64-package failed during installation.

We understand the devs are planning to enable upgrade from Z15.3 to Z16 via the normal software update process, but that will not be until later in the year, after Z16 production versions are released.
