Zorin 17 not working on dell 13 9635

I have a dell 13 2 in 1 9635 laptop and am experiencing;

  1. touch screen not always working
  2. zorin 17 forgets my password and i have to make a new one after 2 to 3 log ins
  3. zorin 17 does not perform like it did on zorin 16.3
  4. screen dims and i have all settings off and this happens when connected to power

Z17 unlike Z16 boots to Wayland by default. You can try starting with X by selecting from the gearwheel as per this post: How does one change Wayland to X and do I need to? - #2 by Aravisian

Experiment to see if any improvement as X was what you had with Z16.3. If no better choose Wayland again next time.
You may also want to use Software Updater and make sure you are up-to-date with software and drivers.

I cannot get the gear icon to show up.

Maybe it has gone to X11. This terminal command should give you indication of whether session is running as Wayland or X11.
