Why does the issue described in this post happen on my laptop with Zorin 18.1, but not with Ubuntu 26.04?
Something in Zorin 18.1 definitely needs to be looked at.
hd2400 on zorin 18.1 vs ubuntu 26.04 is almost always a mesa/stack gap. ubuntu ships newer bits so the same card can look fine there and flicker here.
check which driver is live:
glxinfo -B | head -20
or Settings → About → Graphics. say if you see radeon / amdgpu or llvmpipe.
if you are on Wayland, log out and pick Zorin on Xorg once. old radeon on Wayland loves flickery menu edges.
paste the glxinfo renderer line if it still does it on Xorg.
Zorin 18 is based on Ubuntu 24.04. So, it could be realted to Firmware, Drivers or a better Wayland Implementation in Ubuntu 26.04.
You could try it with installing newer Mesa Drivers with adding this PPA:
I also tested Zorin on XOrg and updated the firmware, but the problem persisted.
got it, so xorg and firmware didnt move it.
paste:
glxinfo -B | head -20
and which renderer line you get (radeon / amdgpu / llvmpipe).
if you are still on the old radeon stack, the kisak mesa ppa ponce linked is the next real step. zorin 18 is 24.04 under the hood so ubuntu 26.04 just ships newer mesa bits out of the box.
