I just booted my desktop this morning and it hung on the Zorin splash screen.
I rebooted to recovery and got the recovery box asking me what to do.
I selected resume and it seems I am now booted into the Xorg session. I have been logging into the Wayland session previously.
I updated all software from the software updater.
When I reboot now, I see the Zorin logo and get a black screen which forces me to recovery again and back into the Xorg session.
I opened logs and see these messages:

I would suggest first to try it with switching to an older Kernel. You can do that on the GRUB Menu on Startup. choose there ''Advanced Options'' and there the older Kernel.
Another Thing could be that maybe gdm has an Issue. You could try it with a Reinstall: sudo apt reinstall gdm3
Can You say what Graphics Card You have and what Driver You use?
I took updates several days ago. But I cannot remember if I performed a reboot since then. I shutdown last night. And started up today to this issue. The only other differences were a couple flatpaks I installed. I uninstalled those today in the course of troubleshooting just to rule them out.

I suspected what you said about reinstalling gdm3 might work. So, I tried that first and it did work. I am booting normally again. Thanks!
Additionally, it also resolved another issue I had of only seeing the colored splash screen during login on my primary monitor. Before this issue, the login screen was black and the blurred color screen only showed on the 2nd monitor.
Unfortunately though, I'm still having some issues that I think may be Wayland related.
1 - FreeTube(flatpak) will not show my normal size mouse cursor. It shows a tiny mouse cursor that I am barely able to see. When I move the mouse outside of the app, the cursor is normal.
2 - Audio playback has a constant popping/crackling sound much like a vinyl record.
Both of those issues go away when I login with Xorg.
Sorry for the delay. I wound up re-installing Zorin. I was having way too many graphical issues.
Re-installing was fine for me since it fits with my setup plan anyway. Anytime I move to a new OS, new PC etc., I don't do anything important for a while. I just hammer down on getting to know the OS itself and document each change I make for future reference.
I'm now logging in with xorg since it appears nvidia drivers with Wayland are just not as stable. All the other issues I mentioned above are gone.
