I performed a clean installation of Zorin 18 Core.
However, I encountered a problem: the taskbar disappeared every time I restarted and had to be re-displayed by setting it through Zorin Appearance.
Then a new problem arose: every time the computer woke from sleep, the desktop screen displayed “there is a problem” and then forced me to log out.
As soon as I clicked the button, the screen flickered and froze!
I'll take a screenshot of my screen. soon.
Do you have installed third party gnome-extensions? Disable them for testing.
Do you have Dualboot with Windows? If yes, please disable fast startup in the energy settings of Windows.
Also disable secure boot (or create a MOK) and fast boot in your BIOS.
You can also try to switch to Xorg. Logout and at login click on your username, then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select "Zorin Desktop on Xorg".
Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
Because You have a Nvidia Graphics Card, I would agree with @Forpli to switching to Xorg. What Driver do You use?
You could aslo try a reinstall of the Desktop and Zorin Appearance and his Components:
Same issue here. Nvidia rtx3080, running the latest (580) driver. It only happens to me on occasion. I have to click log out when it flashes on screen and then log back in and go to appearance and re-set the taskbar location and other settings. a minor inconvenience but still. Also, I have to bring up the desktop cube to get to the settings to fix it because besides moving the taskbar back to the top from where I had it, the Z icon is gone so I can't access the apps and settings menu.
I've also noticed this has happened after running a game and sometimes waking the display after a screen timeout. Just thought I'd throw in some additional info from another user.
Same issue as well, NVIDIA 2050 laptop running the 580 driver. Mine also resets my taskbar, but it seems to only be resetting the type of taskbar it uses.
This issue only happens when steam is open, so it may be from the steam overlay.
Also, the option for xorg doesn't appear for me. It's just "Zorin destop" and Zorin destop on Wayland"
@ThatOneMF: I'm having the exact same issue. Also I've check journalctl -b -1 which showed errors from Dec 20, nine days ago. Meaning, this crash didn't have a log entry.
The only error I'm seeing is wsdd errors, which calls out Windows Discovery Service, even though there are ZERO Windows machines on my network. However other forums have logged the fact this wsdd is missing some components and to rule it out reinstall wsdd. I've installed it, now I have to be patients until the next crash.
