Zorin 18 glibc (Plasma)

Regulars knew I'd ask. We all know there are no plans to expand desktop environment selection, but is glibc now new enough for KDE Plasma 6, and are the necessary packages available? I'd investigate myself, but since upgrade-in-place functionality isn't available...

Zorin OS 18 is using glibc 2.39

The repos contain Plasma 5.14

I did find this guide that, with some alchemy and a dead mouse, suggests how to install Plasma 6 onto Ubuntu 24.04:

Deceased Mus Musculus. But you can bypass that if you already have the Philosophers Stone.

The mouse lives another day. Reading to the end of the article, it looks like it was a failed attempt on the author's part. Thanks though. Marking solved anyway, as the thread was a request for information, which you provided: the repos are not ready for Plasma 6, so there's no reason for me to move to Zorin 18.

You've been handling a LOT of questions with Zorin 18's release, and dealing with a few unruly users to boot. I can hardly blame you for finding something promising, that provided steps, and presenting it without spending more of your time on it than that.

Unfortunately, the fellow who mentioned success needed a week of effort, and did it on Pop OS! 22.04--which I can only assume means they had the expertise to replace its glibc on their own. Definitely beyond me. I've been considering moving to Debian 13 and handling kernel updates and Nvidia drivers on my own since I do here anyway, but in the absence of evidence to the contrary I have to assume they'd frustrate me with their slow pace. They support Plasma 6, but if a Plasma release has a feature I want, I have no idea how long it'd take them to adopt it. Even Torvalds jokes about Debian's pace.

Well ... theoretically (important Word here) because Zorin 18 is based on Ubuntu 24, You could add the KDE Neon Repo to install the Plasma 6 Desktop. Not a good Idea in my Opinion but a Possibility.
