Zorin 18 + Steam (Desktop Icons)

I recently installed a fresh version of Zorin 18 along with Steam (through the Software Store), and while the Steam icon made it to the desktop (and both Steam and my games run fine), any game I install and ask to add a desktop icon, does not add one to the desktop. Even trying to add a desktop icon afterwards through steam game properties does not add it.

Anyone else having this issue?

Is steam installed as flatpak? In this case it may help to install flatseal and set the permissions to all users/system files or you can create .desktop files for your games

Right click on the file and allow launching as program.

Here are some ideas mentioned for steam flatpak

That was the issue, I installed Steam from FlatHub this time, instead of the Steam Installer from Zorin OS (which I had done previously under Zorin 17.3).

I tried using FlatSeal, but setting User File Access somehow broke Steam, it just wouldn't start anymore. I even tried giving it full System Wide Access and it still wouldn't start. Turning them both back to off Steam would start just fine.

In the end I ended up uninstalling and re-installing using the Steam Installer from Zorin OS. Though it complains about my 64bit NVidia drivers, it works just fine.

Yes, I'm forced to launch Flatpak steam, via the Terminal instead, standard GUI launching does not work. Back in 2021, a member we used to have here, helped me set up the Terminal execution, which can be launched by a desktop icon for convenience, works awesome!

The only reason I needed to use Flatseal however, was to give Steam permission, to use external drives for game storage.
