There are already numerous threads asking about Z18 e.g. Any chance we can get news about Zorin 18 ...? which can be read.
The simple answer is Z18 will only be released when it is ready by the devs. We are unlikely to see any information from them before then. If you subscribe to the Zorin Newsletter you may be informed at the time of release.
This is how it feels like asking for updates from the Zorin Group sometimes ...
Thanks zabadabadoo!
I am a real rookie. Actually I am using Windows 10. I am going to use your suggestion and link.
Since Windows 11 is incompatible with my hardware and I want to try something new, I will be switching to Linux in the autumn.
I am a privacy-conscious citizen and am tired of being bossed around and spied on by Microsoft.
Zorin is an operating system that respects the security and privacy of its users. Unlike Microsoft.
Hey StarTreker!
I have to add something.
Microsoft also cooperates with American intelligence agencies.
For example, there is no political will in Germany to promote open source with more money!
Furthermore, Germany wants to remain dependent on America.
This is partly because of our German Federal Intelligence Service.
Do you agree with me?
And why we have the Sovereign Tech Fund? That is for Funding Open Source.
That is not so simple. Like everything in Germany, it takes Time. Look at Schleswig-Holstein. They want change to Linux and LibreOffice. Yes, in Munic it fails. But I wouldn't take them as Blueprint.
Than do not wait! Change now!
I did it - finally - in May out of similar reasoning.
Thanks for your response.
I have to explain something to you.
Quote 1: And why we have the Sovereign Tech Fund? That is for Funding Open Source.
Answer 1: For example, we do not have a genuine European cloud solution that could compete with America. This cloud solution runs on the server side with open-source operating systems such as Linux.
German politicians invest too little money in open source. Instead, our politicians in Germany prefer us citizens and taxpayers to pay high license fees for the use of closed source such as Micro$oft.
Quote 2: That is not so simple. Like everything in Germany, it takes Time. Look at Schleswig-Holstein. They want change to Linux and LibreOffice. Yes, in Munic it fails. But I wouldn't take them as Blueprint.
Answer 2: Microsoft also has an office in Munich. Just like Amazon. That's why the Bavarian Minister-President wants to stick with Microsoft Windows. You can't alienate your American friends and run a Microsoft office in Munich at the same time. That's what I meant by deliberate dependence on the part of German politicians.
You are right, Cars10!
There is no reason to hesitate. But I grew up with Windows 95. The good old times, you know. For a Windows user like me it a farewell. Perhaps I can emulate some Windows software on Linux with the help of "Bottles" or "Wine".
Checkup with Wine DB to see if your software is supported: https://appdb.winehq.org/
There is Nextcloud. Maybe not as big as some american Pendants but in Usage.
That doesn't have to do anything with US Citizens and Taxpayers. They use Microsoft because they have no Idea. But with my Example I show that they could open. But that takes Time.
The only Thing what the bavarian Minister President is interested in is the bavarian Minister President and Bavaria.
But we should stop this now at this Point to don't make it too politically and don't dive in this Hole.
Yip, been there too. First 56 kbit/s modem after ISDN and all that.
What is so important that you still "need" of Windows software?
Here a way how you can make LibreOffice look almost as MS Office

Other alternatives for Windows software:

Lasst uns hoffen, dass Schleswig-Holstein den Bayern zeigen wird wie es anders kann!
Thanks Storm!
As a rookie it is good to know that I am not alone. Microsoft wants to expand its market shares and power over its users. That is why Microsoft uses exotic software programs which runs only on Windows. It is like games you can play only on XBOX or PlayStation. Exclusive title, you know.
You are right Cars10!
I am 37 years old and not too old for learning something new. I know what you mean with a 56K modem. The real speed of an analog modem was 44 kbit/s.
Dialing in with an analog modem was a bit of a hassle. You had to wait until the line was free before you could dial in. And not to forget the nostalgic sound fo an analog modem.
ISDN brought digital technology. It had two channels (B1/B2), each with a speed of 64 kbit/s, and a control channel (D). Channel bundling allowed speeds of up to 128 kbit/s to be achieved.
You are right. We should not make it too politically.
Hey guys!
I found something about the upcoming Linux kernel.
P.S. I mean this could be important for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and perhaps Zorin 18.x too.
Kind regards,
Tom1
