I really like almost all the changes in version 17. But there are several oddities that I find quite disturbing.
I like setting the newly opened window in the middle of the monitor. So maybe this problem is only for users who like setting new windows in the center position.
From doing a search, as Zorin uses Gnome Shell 43, I suspect it is the known Gnome Shell version bug that is the issue:
" Centred Window Alignment Issue After Min/Max Cycle in GNOME Shell 43
After analyzing the provided search results, it appears that there is a known issue in Gnome Shell 43, specifically with window alignment. When a window is minimized and then maximized, it may no longer be centered on the screen.
Affected Users
This issue affects users running Gnome Shell 43.1 on Manjaro Linux (X11) and possibly other distributions with the same version of Gnome Shell.
Symptoms
Minimizing a window and then maximizing it causes the window to remain overlaid on top of the window now taking up the full screen.
Other problems reported include:
Scroll bars not working properly, freezing the window contents until the bar is released.
Window tiling extensions like Pop! Shell, Material Shell, and Forge also affected.
Potential Causes
The search results suggest that this issue might be related to the update_stage_views() function in Gnome Shell, which is responsible for updating the window manager’s internal state. Specifically, the function may be called without proper allocation, leading to incorrect window positioning.
Workarounds
While there is no official fix available, some users have reported success with:
Disabling and re-enabling the window tiling extension (e.g., Pop! Shell).
Restarting the Gnome Shell process.
Updating the Gnome Shell and Mutter packages to the latest versions.
Future Development
It’s essential to note that this issue is still under investigation, and a permanent fix may be addressed in future updates of Gnome Shell or Mutter.
Recommendation
If you’re experiencing this issue, try the workarounds mentioned above. If the problem persists, consider reporting it to the Gnome Shell issue tracker or seeking assistance from your Linux distribution’s support channels."
I don't have this problem. Try moving the window somewhere, wait a moment, then close it. The next times both when launched and when exiting from maximized it should restore the window position that you previously set. Also, the window position might be affected by the screen resolution.
