I installed Zorin OS 17 last night, with the Modern Nvidia Driver method. The Driver Version is 550.120; I have a Lenovo 1440p monitor with 144hz refresh rate, and my GPU is a 4070 ti (if its relevant).
I try to set the refresh rate in Zorin, but it only goes up to 119.88 hz. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks in advance!
Did You checked if Zorin is running in Wayland or Xorg? Because Xorg is at the Moment the better choice for Nvidia Graphics on Zorin. To check that, go to Settings>About and look there for the Line called ''Window Manager'' or similar. Look if there stands Wayland or X11. If there should stand Wayland, switch to Xorg.
To do that, go to the Login Screen and click on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. It has to be appeared! When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right corner a Gear Icon. Clock on it and choose ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in and test if it works now.
When I click on the settings cog at the bottom right, just before typing in my password, it only shows "Zorin Desktop" and"Zorin on Wayland"; It doesnt have anymore options.
Okay, then it is in Your Case inverted. I guess because of Your Nvidia Card. Then choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop'' and log in. To check if it really runs with it, go to Settings>About and look there like I described above.
Yes, it is right. It is like it should be. Okay, let it on X11/Xorg. Did You take a Look at @swarfendor437's Suggestion? As an Addition for using xrandr here are two Posts. The first one has a Video and the 2nd one explains it a bit:
If this shouldn't work, You could try it with uninstalling the Nvidia Drivers and installing them again.
Sometimes Zorin reports the wrong refresh rate, for example, Nvidia X Server Settings will say my display is running at 60-Hertz, but the Display Manager will list my refresh rate as 59-Hertz.
If you need to make a customized refresh rate, CompizConfig might be the way to go, under the Composite category. See look...
I believe I found a fix ,BUT its after I went back to Windows: I noticed it was still at the same refresh rate in Windows as from Zorin, so I reset my monitor to factory settings and the option for 144hz appeared in my windows settings. Im just waiting for my repair loop to reoccur (which was why I moved to Zorin), where i'll stick to Zorin again.
