Thank you so much as you put me on the right trail to solving my problem .... I kept following the different links given in the original post and it led to someone commenting on Free Download Manager as being the culprit .... and sure enough I had it downloaded so I used Synaptic to remove it and WA…

I think there r processes may take time to shutdown and caused that .I have faced slow shutting down before , but for me it was because of waiting for process crond to shutdown, and I solved it.
