Hello to everyone, and thanks for your time!
I am a Kali and Minth user on daily bases,so when my mothers elderly 10-ish years old,Samsung laptop started to freeze i thought it would be a great idea to relieve the hardware with a light OS,and here we are.
Zorin works great, response as expected,no issues at all except the WiFi speed, which is about a fifth of the real bandwidth at download, but strange enough, the upload is at full.
The specs are as follows:
-CPU AMD E2-1800/memory 6GB/HDD 500GB/GPU Radeon HD 7340
So what have i done so far in the last few days, except fresh install the OS?
-tried to convince my mother to buy a new laptop, that didn't work
-done update and upgrade
-disabled bluetooth, avoided any use of VPN
-WIFI power management directly disabled (value 2)
-fiddled with Firefox,not much improvement
-installed Brave browser,slightly better
-emulated a VM Zorin on my Mac,WIFI was acceptable
-also installed OS on a separate partition (third device) works just fine
-connected directly thru UTP,no improvement
-the plan is fiber optics unlimited 200/20mbps
-tried on some different networks, same issue.
Below i will share the lshw and lspci data,so knock yourself out,and hopefully together we will find some solution, because i am running out of ideas...

The vast majority of the time, if your Upload speed is normal, but down speed is slow - you need to check your router. If there is any block or interference between the computer and the router or the Router Bandwidth Channel may need to be changed.
I think based on your use-case, Linux Mint Xfce or MATE would have been a good way to go. You get automatic updates and the newer Xfce desktop 4.18 or MATE's recent desktop. Plus Mint sort of has the same paradigm/flow for the most part on all 3 desktops (Cinnamon, MATE, & Xfce). I use Zorin Core about 40% of the time with Mint Cinnamon and LMDE 5 too about 40% with Windows 11 and Tuxedo OS the remaining 20% of the time. Despite like using Zorin a bit more, I think Mint is just a bit better in some areas with regard to their upgrade tool and automatic updates as part of their system. Plus, Mint has found drivers for me in the past with a minimum of fuss. All I am trying to say is although Zorin Core is better for me, their Xfce Lite version I think is not as well done compared to Mint's Xfce which is delightful to use. Good luck!
The latest Mint XFCE is version 4.16.
I didn't want to go long and wide in my description, but ofcourse i checked the router, reseted it,accesed it to check if there is some rogue parameter ...
I downloaded Mate, and will give it a go,so i will check back with the results.
RealTek has been having a few issues in Zorin recently.
You may try blacklisting the ath9k driver and see if it will automatically load the rt8169/8 driver. You could also force this to test.
If it makes it worse, remove the blacklist and return to ath9k.
Nope, same thing. All went by the book,no hiccups but the issue is persistent in Mint too.
I already started browsing for a red Samsung laptop, because i am out of ideas.
Will try,but i am not expecting a lot of a ten years old laptop.
But - the newest update will have 4.18 which is in Beta now.
