Zorin OS 16.2 can't choose highr refresh rate for external monitor

I installed Zorin OS 16.2 on a different machine and tried using the same 144hz external monitor with it but in settings the highest option is 60hz. It lets me choose up to 120hz on the laptop screen itself but won't with the external monitor.

Check for a proprietary display driver

I'm using nvidia-driver-525

can you run the following command in terminal

Can try

xrandr --output eDP-1-1 --rate 144

then check xrandr again to see if 144 is listed
if that doesn't work (less preferable)

cvt 1920 1080 144

Still doesn't work

Does that port support above 60hz ? Because the CVT command manually adds the mode. The other thing you could do is manually at at the Xorg config and try that way But if the external port is controlled by the IGPU and it does not support above 60 Hertz it's not going to matter.
