I have read other similar topics but their log outputs are different from my own so am making a new post:
Updating 17.3 Pro to 18 via the update it comes back with this:
[CHECKING:Calculating Upgradeable Packages] Started
[CHECKING:Calculating Upgradeable Packages] Fatal Error: { GDBus.Error:org.aptkit.TransactionFailed: error-dep-resolution-failed: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages. }
[CHECKING:Calculating Upgradeable Packages] Failed
[CHECKING] Failed
I have run the systems and advice found on this Fix Package Manager Issues - Zorin Help and no packages claim to be held or to be an issue according to the CMDs in this help guide.
I have two things that might or maybe be an issue: Mainline Kernel App and Dconfd App . I have no ideas if these guys could get in the way.
How do I work out and find out what's causing this issue?
Ultimately, does anyone know the way to work through this issue?
Thank you.
Edit: I have Nvidia drivers/firmware (though they're not used as this is not a Game PC) which I believe are common causes of issues; could this be a possible avenue to explore?
Sorry, as implied in my OP, both of these have been done and both output nothing to update/ nothing to upgrade .

I guess I could uninstall no longer required packages....
I don't know (or don't remember) why they're there. the computer is dual boot with Nvidia Graphics card. I have no idea why specific Nvidia drivers are on there.
Unused apt's have been removed. Retried upgrade and no change.
Why You have Focal Sources active? On Zorin 17, You should only have Jammy Sources. Focal was for Zorin 16. That should be controled.
And You have Third-Party Repos added. For the Upgrade, it would be good to remove them and add them later again. I know, a bit annoying to do that. But because of the Change of the OS Base it can avoid Issues.
Ok that looks promising. This OS was upgraded from Zorin16 so maybe they were left over?
I hadn't realised that and wasn't aware why they're there. I will remove the focal- repos.
After entering nautilus File Manager as root I have edited the Mullvad and Google files and commented out their contents. Previously I had removed their repository via the command line as per their documentation.
Have tried to upgrade Zorin OS again and the same error occurs on upgrade.
I see here mostly explicitly focal. That is not right. You would have to replace this with the Jammy one's. Otherwise, You don't have the right Sources. And when you only delete that, You don't have the Sources at all.
Is that everything in this File?
You could try the Commands sudo apt install -f and/or sudo dpkg-reconfigure but to be honest: Maybe save Your Data and make a fresh Install.
@Nourpon then you will see what the answer to your question is. @Forpli this request has also been answered. apt update doesn't have a reaction. Everything is up to date.
The contents of the focal .list and .save files are "jammy" versions of the package references . I have commented out all of these as per suggestion above by @Forpli .
I am not on that OS now but tomorrow I will try your suggestions.
Just to be clear; Are you suggesting fresh installing Zorin OS 17.3 Pro to then upgrade from a clean install, or simply to install a clean Zorin OS 18 (I've no idea if there's any endpoint difference to this?)
You can install Zorin 17 Pro and then upgrade, but You can save Time and install directly Zorin 18 Pro. It isn't neccessary to go the Upgrade Way when You do a fresh Install.
