Zorin OS 17 Beta Feedback

It's good that they went with Gnome 43, now it's like Debian 12  perfect middleground between new and stable

Tried it live. The sideways workspaces will take some getting used to. The glaring white edge is too stark so I installed Blur My Shell. Not a problem when you scroll them via the Workspace Indicator extension. The wallpaper also scrolls now. Liked it better when it stayed put. Not sure I like its multiple large icons on the taskbar. I liked just having the number.

Some of my old extensions no longer work but there are newer ones that do such as Pano Clipboard Manager and Weather O'Clock. My suburb is now included in the weather.

I do like that it saves two wallpapers for day/nite.

Ain't that the truth.... LOL
Hang in there. It'll just be another 7, 8 months maybe. And it'll be awesome.
(Basing that upon previous release times)

I find the light theme too bright anyways. Could never go with it. I always switch to dark theme right away.

I like new beta, it is smooth, good looking. But missing of availability of latest apps (which are available on Ubuntu) is my minus for Zorin.

Atm I am switched back to Ubuntu , will see what next update will bring

11 posts were split to a new topic: Customizing Zorin OS 17 Beta

I have video glitches when running MPV on a MPEG-4 videos, very weird

It is really great to see how many members enthusiastically help test and report on the Zorin Beta. Just noting a Thank You to everyone.

I wish Zorin OS add KDE by default, because everything out of the box with Zorin is much more gorgeous

It isn't ready yet, Vimeo is optimising my brief introduction to Zorin 17 Beta. This drive is failing and I don't have a spare one to DD or Rescuezilla to.

Had to use WinFF to convert as I think the codec was too UltraHD!

Started having some 'stickiness' when selecting Home folder on desktop - after opening the highlighting should disappear but the 'halo' around Home folder and text beneath remain:

but wondering if this is due to failing drive (second one this week!)

OK, could have sworn Parental Controls was present in live mode and installed mode until previous drive went down. And I don't get the additional 4 items with Settings in the Menu as in this review:

Parental Controls not showing in Menu but if I start typing 'Parent ...' It takes me to the App Store page saying it is installed and Zorin software but nothing runs:

That is because Parental Controls in of itself isn't an app that you're supposed to open, but rather an extra component for the system settings. Check the Zorin 17 Beta announcement on more information.

I don't see anyone else mentioning this, so it must be just me: The spatial window window switcher is not working for me. Nothing happens when I hit Alt+Tab or Win+Tab. On day one, Alt-Tab was actually switching apps, but without any animation or feedback. Now even that isn't happening.

This is a regular on-board Intel GPU with an i7-3770. The Settings -> About screen says "Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 4000 (IVB GT2)"

Update:

This happens when "Spatial Window Switcher" is turned on - there is no animation and sometimes the window doesn't switch, but it is switching at the moment, although without the preview window. When turned off, the normal switcher behavior is restored.

"Desktop Cube" does appear to be working. When I hit Win, it goes into that "exposé" mode, showing me all windows in the current workspace and I can use the mouse to move the cube around. Jelly mode is working fine too and it has worked since 16.

Another minor issue is that when the desktop cube or spatial window switcher settings are toggled, sometimes the "Active Screen Edges" setting gets turned off, but "Hot Corner" remains unchanged.

That is interesting, both features are working just fine on my end

I don't know why this could be happening yet, but I'll try to reproduce the issue

Will zorin 17 final build have minimal and normal installation? I would like to have my libre office installed throguht ppa which has faster updates then on internal distro.

As far as I know, different installation modes will not come to Zorin OS 17, even after a final release.

Note that you can easily uninstall the included LibreOffice.

I don't agree zorin 16 pro had that option, pro has more themes and a full package , you had an option to install zorin 16 pro without the overwhelming apps, for people who wanted more control to install base to base apps

I have had no issues. What graphics card do you have? Are you using proprietary drivers or Nouveau?

my system on my old Dell - still takes 2 min to load, but hd will be upgraded to ssd 2 tet in another month, as with the other old but younger dell running Garuda - a back up - lol
