When they will use Ubuntu 26.04 LTS as Base, there will no longer be a Xorg Session. When the Dev's doesn't put in Xorg by thereown, You will not have an Xorg Session then anymore. And I would highly doubt that they will implement it.

I don't quite understand Your Comment ...

When You bought the Pro Version, You have now Zorin 18 Pro - and that has Xorg and will it have. That will not be removed. But in Zorin 19 with Ubuntu 26.04 Base and Gnome 50 there will not be an Xorg Session.

And Zorin 19 Pro, You would have to buy again. When You pay for a Pro Version that is for the Main Version for what You have paid. So, You paid for Zorin 18 Pro that counts for Zorin 18. For Zorin 19, You would have to buy a Pro Licence again.

Hi! I was wondering about this too. Xorg has been reliable, but Wayland seems to be becoming more common across Linux desktops. I’d be interested to know whether Zorin plans to move to Wayland in future releases or continue supporting Xorg for the foreseeable future.

Zorin usually brings out the next LTS 2 years after Ubuntu LTS versions. So Zorin 19 can be expected to be based on Ubuntu 26.04 which will be Wayland only:

i can say for sure that ubuntu 26.04 doesnt have X11 uses Wayland and Xwayland i think it looks at vid card to determin which to use...but unlike zorin where you can switch between them there is no option

Watching this discussion with interest. My desktop computer works fine on Wayland but is unusable on Xorg. However my Surface tablet is the reverse, works fine on Xorg but is not really usable on Wayland (cannot use on screen keyboard which prevents it being used as a tablet).

I would hope both systems continue to be available at least until major improvements in Wayland functionality are created. Not convinced that will happen by 2029 if it isn't a priority for developers.

i actually have been using(on an off) Ubuntu 26.04 and with the nvidia cards at install it uses the zink vulcan driver which by its self works fine with all the games i play you can of course use the manufacture drivers if you wish the amd card i have works no matter what as the drivers are built into the kernel..... vid cards i have backup computer has nvidia 3050 ...this machine has the RX 6600 XT using LACT

Ubuntu 26.04 is on Gnome 50 - and Gnome 50 doesn't have Xorg anymore. Because Zorin uses 24.04, Xorg is still available.

What I found funny on Vanilla Gnome 50 (not in Ubuntu): They even have disabled the Logout Button by default. When You would have a different Desktop Environment installed, You would get it but not when You have Gnome only. Then, You have to use DConf Editor to enable it again.

Do You use on both Devices Zorin?

Yes, both devices on Zorin

You could try if Ubuntu 26.04 runs better on Your Surface Device. With Gnome 50 it has a newer Desktop Environment with better Wayland Integration.

Hey Ponce-De-Leon. Here is the thing. Ubuntu has released "Ubuntu 24.04.5.1 LTS (Noble Numbat) for Desktop". So Zorin 18.1. Core is based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Is Zorin 18.1 Core going to get updates (security, software & drivers)?

On the other hand it sounds really good, that Zorin 19 is based on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. I am using an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050Ti (Driver version 580.178.04) and the latest Linux Kernel (7.0.0-31-generic) in Wayland mode. I have some concerns, that the upcoming Zorin 19 doesn't support my NVIDIA Graphic card. I don't find any information how long NVIDIA supports this card with linux graphic drivers which are compatible with the upcoming linux kernels.

Thanks in advance!

Zorin gets continuos Updates, yes. That doesn't stop.

If the Zorin Dev's doesn't surprise us all with a Switch of the Bas, then it will use Ubuntu 26.04.

Your Card is here definetely a Point. Why? You have a Nvidia 10XX Card. Nvidia has cutted Support for this Cards with Driver 590. So, as long as You stay on the 580 Driver, You should be fine.

So, when on the future Zorin 19 with Ubuntu 26.04 Base the 580 Driver will be available, it should run.

My research said that 26.04 was very unstable with Surface devices and upgrading from 25 to 26 was discouraged. so recommended to use Zorin instead at leasy until there were major updates to the Linux Surface Module. I'm always skeptical about AI but I think I'll wait and see closer to when Z19 comes out.

This is exactly the problem with X being sunset earlier than it should be. Or at least, why it shouldn't be removed as a backup option for systems that, for whatever reason, won't work on Wayland (hint, there's a lot of them). And my biggest gripe with that is, if a system doesn't work on X, there's almost always a workaround that can be made to make it work. On Wayland, I have seen very few solutions to problems blatantly obvious, and the only workaround (still!) is to switch to X.

Thanks a lot! I know. My Graphic card is not the latest one. Security updates, patches or fixes are very important to stay secure. Not only for the system. For the entire hardware and its components, too.
