Zorin Os does not boot with HDMI sound by default

Hello,

my HDMI cable is connected to my Samsung TV. HDMI is well detected when I select it, I have sound. However, I'd like my PC to automatically select HDMI as the audio source on startup, instead of my Corsair headset, but I can't get it to work.

After each reboot, my Corsair headset reverts to its default setting of

Thanks You

Welcome to the Forum!

I have a similar Setup and for me helps PulseAudio Volume Control. It is a Tool to set up Audio Input and Output. To install it type in the Terminal:

sudo apt install pavucontrol

When You have installed it, open it and go to the ''Output'' Tab. There click on the Marker by the Your HDMI Connection:

Hello

It's already the case and every time I restart, the Corsair comes back by default

Did You tried it with a Reboot after the Installation an set up? And is Your Headset permanently connected?

@Noriju I have done a websearch using searchterm "pulse audio default output not sticking ubuntu 22.04"
There are quite a lot of hits, involving many different distro's, including this:

and

I don't know if anything there will help.

I had the same exact issue, and I was never able to find a solution. So I installed the Sound Input/Output Chooser extension, which allowed me to manually, and quickly, set it to HDMI sound, from the bottom right menu in taskbar. I've been doing that work around for years.

Whats interesting to note however, as soon as I decided to switch my audio setup to an external USB audio DAC, mute every other sound output method but the USB, and activate the fallback button for my USB DAC, now Pulse Audio magically remembers now, upon every boot, and I no longer have to fiddle with my output source anymore!

Interesting. I am currently running PCLOS Debian and no Pulse Audio present. That said I don't use HDMI but soundcard for surround sound system.

Unfortunately, I've tried several solutions without success, so I'll put this aside for now. It's not a very serious bug, and will probably be resolved in the future ^^. Thank you anyway

Out of curiosity what comes back from terminal command of:

sudo lshw -C audio

nothing
