got this from the Blur My Shell extension. hopefully the Zorin Team makes their own version
What is the advantage of installing KDE on Zorin?
In this case I prefer a distro that already comes with KDE like MX Linux, Q4OS, etc.
Agreed. The issue with Zorin in it's current format is it is limited to Plasma 5.24. I also got some desktop corruption in that I get non-linked icons that actually belong to 'root'! The screenshots are actually from PCLinuxOS KDE 24.04.1 (Plasma 5.27)! I have kde neon on another drive, MX-Linux KDE on another, and Q40S KDE (Aquarius 5.5) on the hard drive in the machine. I have Zorin 17.1r2 Core on another drive - I removed all Gnome elements and Zorin Desktop, and also installed Enlightenment DE, just for something different! I have a hot-swap bay for my various drives!
I really like MX Linux with KDE. I have a dual boot with it and Zorin.
What I like about PCLinuxOS is no systemd, the ability to circumvent pipewire and pulseaudio via audacious audio settings, and once the settings made in that application, any other apps that use audio, my surround sound system is fully functional. It differs from mainstream KDE in that it does not use Discover so coupled with no systemd it uses a lot less resources when idle or running. All updates are carried out by Synaptic Package Manager by first selecting Reload (this refreshes the repository at NLUUG in the Netherlands), then selecting 'Mark all upgrades', if there are any packages for upgrade a window opens to advise what updates/upgrades are available, then click on 'Apply' and works pretty fast. There is no sudo command in PCLinuxOS, only su (switch user). At point of install you have root privileges so you can use your user password for su. Post install you can add a root password separate to your user password.
