Oh fantastic! I love this new forum feature!
It's a pity that this function is not available when creating a post, so that you can write in your own language, click on translate and then upload it in English right away. I think that would be more comfortable when you want to read threads with many posts written in foreign languages.
Wow, dette var en veldig bra endring. Nå forventer jeg å se alle snakke i sitt eget språk
I'd rather speak english tbh, this shi weird
thanks though zen
I'm still struggling with the language settings.
If I set the forum to German, the automatic google translator does not translate the English posts because the translation service first sees the German welcome screen and then thinks the whole page is in German.
If I set it to English, it works fine with the English translation into German, but I can't navigate to the settings or create a topic.
Some posts are in other languages but there is no translation button.
And I need automatic translation to understand everything.
Thanks to the Zorin's!
One thing that I'm just now thinking might be "problematic" is with searching for something later in the future, if all posts have all languages at once
Yes, it seems to behave a little erratically when it detects more than one language in the same post, or possibly in the same thread.
If you are using a third party service there's nothing we can do, as that runs entirely on your end. You can try to reach out to Google to report a particular site where the translator doesn't work properly, or check if there is a setting to always translate the entire page to your language.
EDIT:
Just realized that Vivaldi has this translation service built-in where you can select some text and it'll automatically translate it:
As jy Nederlands gaan praat , dan gaan ek my moedertaal,Afrikaans ,praat.
That's a good point. We do encourage people to make use of the Search facility before creating a new subject. But they do not seem to use it very much.
Thank you for working with the Zorin team to find ways to simplify the translation! That makes me very happy.
The integrated translation function in Vivaldi is a great tip. I'll see if I can find something like that in my browser. It probably won't be as easy on a mobile phone as on a big screen.
I notice that the translations with libretranslate are often not as accurate as with deepl or google translate. It is therefore definitely better not to use the libretranslate translation plugin before uploading (as I had suggested) and to upload not only the translation, but also the original text. Then you can translate it later with any tool you want. I'll continue to translate my German texts with deepl before uploading, because then they are best understandable, everyone can read them easily and they also express better what I want to say.
When I use the libretranslate plugin instead of google translate in the browser to translate the English posts, it often hangs as soon as I have translated several posts. Google translate does the whole website at once. I often even understand the English original better than the German translation of libretranslate...
And if you write text that is too long, libretranslate no longer translates it completely but cuts it off and the end is missing.
But libretranslate is a really helpful function if someone just wants to post something quickly or is new to the forum and doesn't know their way around.
I've changed the title of this thread to reflect it's specific content as the original title was open to many different interpretations.
