First of all I didn't know where to place this thread. If it's wrong section, please move to good one.
I've tried Ubuntu 24.10 and it feels much smoother than Zorin. When it comes to open chrome, vs code, brave it seems Ubuntu is much faster. What is it related to? Kernel, Gnome version? Maybe something else?
Ubuntu 24.10 is the current up-to-date Version of Ubuntu. Zorin is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. So, it doesn't have the newest Software Palette. And so not the newest Implementations for all.
More up to date gnome version, updated Mesa stack, improved Wayland support, a more updated kernel with more additions that aren't in 22.04. Applications opening faster can also just be more optimized Snap packages (since they're really gungho about making that the defacto for their OS).
There's so many things that are updated compared to Zorin that it would be really hard to pin down just a couple things that are the reason for the increase in responsiveness.
100% agreed. I don't care if they're falling a little "behind" in the Ubuntu release cycle (I've found out there is no release schedule per se, which might be for the better). I never thought I'd like anything better than Ubuntu, but here I am.
