I'm currently running Zorin Pro 17.3. I know that 18 is out but I've never been notified. After reading several other posts, I'm unsure whether I should be seeing an automatic update (doesn't seem so) or even a notification, or whether I should even attempt to update. And is each update a new purchase?
Me too - running 17.3 Pro for now.
18 is available as a fresh install for a month or so and very recently as a testing upgrade. To get the test upgrade you have to enter in terminal:
gsettings set com.zorin.desktop.upgrader show-test-upgrades true
I believe it will then show up in the upgrader. Basically you are telling the upgrader to look for testing upgrades as well as stable ones.
You will have seen all the discussion threads about the upgrade. Some worked fine, some had major or minor issues. The blog about it being available basically said it may break your machine, do it at your own risk and make backups.
You have to buy the 18 Pro even though you have 17.3 Pro. I don't know how long ago you paid for 17 Pro but I asked the Zorin contact desk for a discount quoting my 17 Pro order # and they gave me a link for a 50% discount which came to $24. I went ahead and bought it even though I'm waiting to do the upgrade.
All. Note I have changed the thread title to indicate it refers to updating 17.3 Pro to 18 Pro.
I would hold off using the updater except for testing purposes at the moment.
You don't get a Notification. And yes, You have to pay for 18 Pro again. A Pro Licence is only for one Main Version.
If the Upgrade is available, You can see in the Zorin OS Upgrader Tool. But at the Moment, it is still in Testing Mode and can cause Issues. So, if You want be sure wait for the final Version.
