I was playing Hollow Knight: Silk Song on Zorin OS 17.3 on my TV using the mirror screen configuration because of the convenience of not change the screen mode, when I installed the Zorin OS 18 I noticed that the game gets a lower frame rate most of the time, usually getting 45 FPS what doesn't make any sense, this problem only happens if on mirror mode, if I extend or use only one screen the FPS stay normal.
Welcome to the forum!
What would you describe as "staying normal" fps? Using a computer in duplicate display mode rather than extend mode would most likely lead to a decrease in performance, mainly because you're pushing the GPU to work harder using both screens to output the game. I would notice the reduction if I did it on my station as well.
Yes, but the game runs at more than that on my PC (It's not a game that demands much after all), and that wasn't a problem on the 17.3.
The FPS stays inconstant, most of time locked on 45, and sometimes it works normally
You could try switching over to X instead of wayland if you're running that (you can check in Settings -> About, Windowing System). It might be that wayland doesn't like this particular configuration for some reason.
To change, at the login screen (when you're typing in your password) in the bottom corner there should be a cog icon. Click it, and select Zorin on X. Then sign in as normal and test.
For those wondering what SilkSong is, its a modern popular platformer game, that has nothing to do with songs, (bad title) you play a character that looks like a fork for a head, and its popular with lady gamers.
I personally haven't played platformers since Donkey Kong Country circa 90's SNES. I only play FPS games now, or at the very least FP games, whatever the secondary genre is.
The problem is the support to the Wayland, when I changed to Xorg it worked as before, even the Steam menu don't work well with the Wayland, you can see that the FPS goes to 45 on the menu
Unfortunately there's a lot of issues with Wayland still. I'd say if everything is working on X (as it sounds like) I would stay on that. You'll most likely have less issues on your system overall with the change as well.
