Hi. I'm using ZorinOS for 7 months and I'm so happy with ZorinOS but i have a problem. When i'm surfing on the net or listening music on spotify, ZorinOS suddenly crashes/restarts and it can be repeat 2-3 times. Can you help me?
Does this happen when you are not doing anything on the computer, e.g. just watching a movie or listening to music?
Then it's probably the suspend mode switching on. You can test it by switching off the settings for suspend mode and the screen saver or increasing the time until it switches on.
Unfortunately, in such cases Linux does not recognize that the computer is still active and turns it off.
Does your computer shut down completely and restart? Or do just start the movies/music or your program from the beginning?
I have some Questions:
- Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
- Is it a Dual-Boot System with Windows? If yes: Is Fast start-Up in windows disabled?
- Do You have installed all Multimedia Codecs incl.
ubuntu-restricted-extras
? - Is the Browser that You use the .deb/APT Version or Flatpak?
- Do You use Spotify in a Browser or as a standalone App?
- If App: The Flatpak from the Software Store or did You add the Spotify Repo and installed the .deb Version from Spotify?
- What are Your Hardware Specs?
- Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? You can check that in Settings>About
- Did You take a Look in the Logs after the System crashes?
@Sehrail If even after disabling suspend etc you still suffer machine going off during a film or when no keyboard/mouse activity, try running Caffeine, Espresso or similar app to simulate activity to defeat sleep/suspend from occurring.
After I had so many problems with movie playback being interrupted after some time or movies suddenly being reset to the beginning by themselves (despite .deb package of the browser, disabled screen saver/suspend mode/secure boot/fast boot/fast startup and enabled presentation mode, installed multimedia-codecs, using XOrg) and there is neither caffeine nor espresso available for XFCE, I searched for another solution yesterday and took a look in browser settings.
I disabled hardware (graphics) acceleration in the Brave browser. And lo and behold: There was neither a crash nor an interruption yesterday! I hope it'll stay that way. So you could try that too.
It happens when i'm watching video on youtube, i want to change video,i click to video and system crashes. Or listening music on spotify. I'm looking for music on spotify, then i switch to browser (brave) and system crashes
1- Both are disabled
2- No, single boot
3- No, i didn't install them. Now i'm installing them
4-No, Flatpak version of Brave
5-Standalone app from flatpak
6-Flatpak version
7- Lenovo V15 G3 ABA Laptop
AMD Ryzen 5 5825u
Vega 8 gpu
24GB Ram
1TB SSD
8- Wayland
9- No, i can't understand cause of crash from logs.
Switch to XOrg. Logout and at login click on your profile, then a cog wheal appears. There you set "Zorin desktop on XOrg". Then login with your password.
Try it with the .deb package of brave browser and spotify (first remove the installed versions). This would probably solve your problem.
If you don't want to switch to .deb packages install flatseal to manage permissions and set the permissions of these flatpaks to allow access to all users files or all system files (if needed).
OK, i'll try your solutions. If it doesn't work, i'll write here
If you use fractional scaling, please disable it for testing when the other solutions don't help. Also disable hardware acceleration in browser.
If you want to install the .deb package for spotify use the installation guide for Debian/Ubuntu that begins with curl
Beneath using the .deb Version of Spotify like @Forpli already wrote, I would suggest to use the .deb Version for Brave, too. The Repo should already been added by default depending what Version You have installed. If it is not added, here are Instructions directly from Brave:
