“Allow Launching” for Desktop file not showing

Hello.

Problem #1:
Desktop shortcuts are untrusted, and if I try to launch them, a message pops up telling me to right-click on the shortcut and then click "Enable "to allow launching.

The problem is that when I right-click the icon, I do not see that option. What am I doing wrong, or is my OS already broken? What should I do?

Problem #2:
Recently, it has happened that when I have "Virtual Box" with the virtual machine running, it sometimes makes the OS go slow and log off. It happens when I have a game that is slightly heavy; I have plenty of space in my disk, btw.

Take a look at this thread, maybe it can help you:

How much RAM do you have and how much RAM is allocated to the virtual machine?

It seems that your desktop shortcuts are games. Is steam installed as flatpak? If yes, you could try it with the .deb package of steam (search for 'steam-installer' in software store).

FIrst of all I saw and tried that method in that forum. It did not work so I think my OS is broken after I re install it. ALso I have 32 ram in total, the amount I gave to the VM in case you refer to base memory it is 22,882. Which now that I think about it I think it might be too much.

What is your host os and what the guest os? You could test if it helps to give both 16 GiB RAM. Are you playing the games in the virtual machine?

Host is Zorin 18 and guest is Windows 10 home and no, no games, it's a game engine actually azeroth control panel. But that's not the issue, is I have for example the VB alone it goes wel, but when I start it while playing in zorin it logs off same when I have the browser opened, maybe it's because I am the kind of person to have a ton of tabs. Do you think my os is broken?

I don't know, probably not. Do you have a Nvidia card? Are you running on Wayland or XOrg?

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

If you are on Wayland try to switch to Xorg. Logout and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select "Zorin Desktop on Xorg".

I was not on wayland and it does not say Xorg, just zoring desktop. Also that command give "x11"

So you are already on XOrg = X11, that's good for Nvidia.

Okay good. So any idea of what should I do?

Hm, I'm not sure what the problem is. Does it work when the virtual machine is paused or turned off? Then it could be due to overload. 10 GiB for gaming in gnome are not much. Which Nvidia driver do you use? What hardware do you have (brand, model)?
Check if it is a problem with powersaving and turn off automatic suspend/screen locking for testing.

Does the computer shut down/reboot or are you only logged off from the gnome session?

Everything goes well when it is not on.
I'm using open kernel proprietary, tested
Hardware? I uh have an ibuypower, asrock, rtx 5070 super

I'd try to give the VM less RAM if you want to play games in Zorin while the VM is turned on.

I know, I know, guess that is solved, thanks a lot for your time. But I'd like to know if you can help me with my other problem.

I fear I might have to re install the os for again to solve my issues.

Did you create a own .desktop test file (as described in the linked thread) to check if something is wrong with your system?

Yes I did. It did not work.

You can wait until someone else can give you an advice.

Yeah...

Did you test it with the .deb file of steam or do you have changed the exec line in the desktop files of the games?

You can also download the .deb file from the steam website.

Welcome to the Forum!

On Right-Click, you have the Option ''Properties''. Click on that. And in the opening Window, You should see at the Bottom a Toggle what You can activate to make it executable.
