Am confused about using a separate hard drive on zorin

I have a 1 TB SSd and a 8 TB hard drive that I have formatted to ext4 and created the partitions and have set it to auto mount though when I try to install steam games onto these drives I keep getting a 'disc write error.' Am I doing something wrong

In which package format is steam installed? When it is installed as flatpak you may need to set permissions with the app "flatseal" to grant access to your drive.

Or you can install steam as .deb package instead which has access to the files. You can use the steam-installer or download the package from the steam website.

With Windows, all you have to do is plug in your formatted external drive, go in Steam, and tell it to use the external drive for your games library. But on Linux, its a lot harder.
