Hi everyone, I rather create a new thread, as there are many different ones about the upgrade since October.
Any news on the official OS 18 upgrade? I am on 17.3 Pro and do not want to mingle with workarounds or fixes. Is there a timeline for a stable upgrader into OS 18 Pro?
To the best of my knowledge you can't do upgrades between Pro versions. My advice to you would be to make a note of all the Software you use in 17.3 Pro and then get Zorin 18 Core and install the Software you use that way. The only downside being you don't get the different desktop layouts.
Zorin 17.3 Pro will upgrade to 18 Pro through the upgrader without issue (as long as you have a license for 18 Pro).
.
I upgraded as soon as the "beta" upgrader was available without issue. Others have had issues, so I would say it depends on your hardware. I've seen a lot of people reporting issues with NVIDIA 3xxx Series cards. If you have one of these cards, I would be cautious. <- I think this is more of a NVIDIA driver / ubuntu issue issue more than a Zorin one, but it appears to give some a headache non the less.
Yes, you can. I did from 16 to 17 pro, but my computer is not a test computer and I do not want to lose the work and personalization I've done, so that's why I have not jumped into the beta version and I rather wait until the final official upgrade release.
I'm getting ready to give up on the upgrade. I tried a 'beta' on my desktop, and it failed. I tried it knowing that could happen and was content doing a clean install. With my laptop on the other hand, I would rather not rebuild as that's my daily driver.
But I'm getting impatient. What about you all? Ready for a clean install? From someone who has done it mainly because I was curious about OneDrive integration, which is a good start but not really useable, I'm thinking it might not be worth a clean install, but it would be nice to be running the same version...
I don't use Zorin any more. My current quandary is to decide which GNU/Linux to install on my last new hard drive. My heart wants to go with systemd-free PCLOS Debian, but my head is telling me to go with Q4OS, the best rolling distro I have ever come across.
I'm new and this is my first post and I don't understand this reply here. I came to learn about Zorin and this does not help, it isn't even about Zorin OS.Confused Off topic, no?
Interested to learn about Zorin Pro and upgrading. Following.
I made a departure from Zorin after I accidentally trashed Zorin 15 after a family argument. Around this time I discovered systemd-free distributions. I still have an affection for Zorin as at the time I joined (Zorin 4 about 2010) was the only (then) GNU/Linux distro that looked anything close to Windows following the demise of Freespire, the community edition of Linspire.
I would see how you get on with Core first before jumping into Pro. The only difference between Pro are additional themes and a ton of Software that you could install yourself using Synaptic Package Manager. In the meantime you could acquaint yourself with Zorin 18 Core by taking a look at the Unofficial Manual I have written for it:
This thread is about the upgrader tool if you want to upgrade from Zorin 17 to Zorin 18 without doing a fresh installation.
I think the upgrader tool to upgrade from Zorin 18 core to Zorin 18 pro is different from this upgrader tool (I think it is function within the upgrader tool that should already be available now, but I'm not sure).
