AppImage management tool

Hi, regarding topic from another post:

It would be great if ZorinOS came with a preinstalled tool to manage AppImages. Non-tech savvy users can spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to make their downloaded AppImages appear in apps dashboard just like other apps.

yeah zorin does not ship a dedicated AppImage manager. what usually works for me is AppImageLauncher (hooks into the menu on first run) or Gear Lever from flathub if you want something more clicky. both beat the chmod + desktop file dance for non-tech users. a built-in zorin tool would be nicer than sending people to third party stuff, but those two cover it today.

Even if they feel that pre-installing a helper app isn't warranted, my understanding is that AppImage software usage is quite low overall and especially among less tech-savvy users, a good compromise could be having a handler that recognises the first execution of an AppImage and offers to install either AppImage Manager or Gear Lever for you; basically, the same as how Zorin handles Windows software.

That said, I feel like it would surely be much easier to pre-install a helper app than create and maintain a custom handler to ask about installing a helper app the first time a user tries to launch an AppImage.

Thanks  I use Gear Lever, but I will look into your recommendations.

The essence of my post however is not asking for help in that matter (my problem was resolved in referred thread), but expressing the thought that such manager IMO should be given by default.
