Hi! I use a few AppImages. Some of them I can pin to Dash without issues, but one of them I cannot. Also, file manager sees this AppImage's icon, but when I run it, it's iconless in the Dash. After I added .desktop file for it to ~/.local/share/applications, it still doesn't show in the apps panel. I verified .desktop file with desktop-file-validate, tried installing with desktop-file-install — still nothing.
As a not-tech-savvy user I'd really appreciate some easy way of installing AppImage programs, so that I could use them the same way as other apps installed from Flathub etc. via Software store app.
Another minor bug: when updating with Software app, it often loops into telling me that there's still something to install, but when I click the update/install button, nothing happens. Issue is usually fixed with apt update && apt upgrade, but is annoying and would greatly confuse an inexperienced user.
You should try the mentioned Gear Lever. This has an Option to create Shortcuts. I would recommedn to remove the one, you made manually to avoid eventually Issues with that. You can find Gear Lever in Gnome Software:
That's exactly what I was looking for! It would be great if this or similar tool was integrated into the system.
I also have another app that is shipped as an executable and for some reasons publisher isn't wrapping it into AppImage. I imagine that simple functionality 'add executable to apps panel' that would ask you for the path and icon would be grand
