Asus Zenbook 14 Core Ultra i5 install prep?

Hi all,

tl,dr; any tips for Zenbook 14 install?

I've bitten the bullet and am moving from Win 10 (despite the extra year of security updates you now get in the EU) to Zorin OS and for various reasons am moving to a laptop rather than re-using my older non-TPM desktop (it might get Zorin'd later).

I've previously installed Zorin OS on a parent's mini PC OK (barring an intermittent printer issues, but that's a separate topic) so have a flashed USB with 17.3 Core on it already, but amazingly have only ever had work laptops, and personally only desktop machines before, so I hope someone can point out the things I might need to do a) in Windows (it's pre-installed), and b) the BIOS to get the best out of my new machine. Specifically;

  1. BIOS update - is this do-able via the BIOS alone, specifically through a Windows tool for Asus machines, or post-install in Zorin?

  2. What do I have prep to use SecureBoot(?) - if I understand it as being encryption for the drive, like Bit locker?

  3. Any OLED-specific tips for managing the screen in Zorin?

I'm sure it'll be fine, and I'm not a complete novice, but a Linux beginner for sure.

Thanks,

As a start, you can read some basic pre-installation advice here: Before you install

Welcome to the Forum!

You can update Your BIOS in Your BIOS. Download the BIOS File and then go in the BIOS.

The easiest Thing would be to disable Secure Boot in BIOS. And Fast Boot, too. And when You want keep Windows for now disable Fast Start-Up in Windows.
