I’m looking for a reliable hard drive for everyday storage and backups. There are so many options available, so which hard drive do you recommend?

Crucial X10 External SSD, USB-C 3.2 Gen2, size from 1-8 TB
It is reliable and very fast but yet expensive and may be not all sizes available. -
SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD, USB-C, size from 1-2 TB
It is also reliable and half fast but less expensive. -
LaCie Rugged Mini External HDD, USB 3.0, size from 1-5 TB
It is also reliable but slower than SSDs and less expensive.
If you are also looking for a Linux Zorin OS Backup Tool for your user data would recommend the Tool "Back in Time" (important: the app named without (root)).
It is available in the Zorin Store. But therefor the disk or the Linux Backup partition has to be formatted with ext4 File System.

I researched about the best external hard drive for the past few days because I need one for storing and backing up my important files, photos, videos, and other data. I read reviews, and they are recommending these two as the best:

I watched a LTT video comparing and testing external storage. SanDisk did not perform well. I can't remember the name of the video, but I quick search in YouTube should find it.
I use external WD's My Passport 1 TB and have been for about 5-6 years now I store my laptop HD's Mint and Zorin OS back-up .... they are not SSD's but the disk type style ....
I presently have 1 500 MB and 6 1 TB's ... have only had one of the older units fail and that was due to my own stupidity ..... LOL
If your interested here is what the older version looks like disassembled .... the newer ones are smaller .... just took this apart yesterday ....
The driver set I used is very old had it for years and the best I have ever used .... no idea what brand it is as the label was worn off many moons ago .... only thing I can salvage is the case .... LOL .... the small round object above the star bit is one of the many tamper proof seals they installed on the screw heads .....

In the past I always preferred Buffalo drives. I came to be aware of Buffalo drives through my last years of employment. For some reason no UK reseller stocked these, suspect it might have had something to do with Covid. However, I found them on Amazon, but the seller was based in the US. When the drives arrived they only had a US powercord so I had to return them and got a refund. In the end I went with a 4 Tb WD Essentials.
So I currently have a 1 Tb Medion external HDD (the first external drive I ever bought from supermarket ALDI), 2 x 2 Tb Buffalo Drives (one USB 2.0 the other USB 3.0) and 2 x 4 Tb WD Essential HDDs.
I have an aversion to Seagate. I purchased a 300 Gb internal Seagate HDD as I had read a lot of PVR's were using them and they came with a 5 year warranty. It died after 18 months. I enquired about a replacement which required me to ship the drive to their warranty centre somewhere in Europe and what prevented me from pursuing is they replace it not with a new drive but a reconditioned one. I ended up buying a Samsung internal HDD, really quiet. So sad they sold out to ... Seagate!
