unter Zorin OS 18 Pro. Hat jemand eine funktionierende Anleitung dazu verfügbar? Die bislang gefundenen Anleitungen sind widersprüchlich. Drucker wird in den nächsten Tagen geliefert. Vielen Dank vorab für Eure Hilfe!

I'm using Zorin OS 18 Pro. Does anyone have a working guide available? The guides I've found so far are contradictory. The printer will be delivered in the next few days. Thanks in advance for your help!

Habt Ihr einfach direkt die Driver unter Zorin installiert oder seid Ihr über Einstellungen - Drucker oder andere Zorin Tools gegangen? Der Drucker soll über USB angeschlossen werden.

Did you install the drivers directly in Zorin, or did you go through Settings - Printers or other Zorin tools? The printer should be connected via USB.

I have had to help another Zorin forum member remotely using Team Viewer after I tried to install Brother Printer Driver on my machine. You do not need to use the Brother Priner install tool at all. (It did not work for me).

Hallo, es gibt etwas, das du vor der Installation des Druckers tun solltest, insbesondere wenn dieser im Netzwerk betrieben wird: Deaktiviere die automatische Erkennung, da du sonst mehrere Einträge unter „Drucker“ erhältst. Außerdem ist „system-config-printer“ nicht mehr im Lieferumfang von Zorin enthalten, installiere es daher zunächst mit:

sudo apt install system-config-printer

Gdebi (Gnome Deb Installer) ist ebenfalls nicht vorhanden, also stelle sicher, dass du es mit folgendem Befehl installierst:

sudo apt install gdebi

Um die automatische Erkennung zu deaktivieren, führe zunächst folgenden Befehl aus:

sudo systemctl stop cups-browsed

Gefolgt von:

sudo systemctl disable cups-browsed

Was die Druckersymbole in „Drucker“ betrifft: Das quadratische Symbol steht für einen über USB angeschlossenen Brother-Drucker, das Turmsymbol zeigt an, dass Ihr Drucker im Netzwerk verbunden ist.

Wenn das Gerät zudem über einen Scanner verfügt, sollten Sie immer das Gerät verwenden, dessen Name mit „eSCL“ beginnt.

Nochmal super Tipps, danke sehr. Damit bin ich echt gut vorbereitet dank Deinen zusätzlichen Konfigurationsbefehlen für cups und gdebi. Ja, das Gerät hat einen Scanner inkludiert, werde dies dann am Namen eSCL... erkennen. Der Brother Multifunktions Tintenstrahldrucker wird per USB ohne Netzwerk betrieben werden. Also nur von einem Rechner wird er benutzt werden (aber von 2 verschiedenen Betriebssystemen aus: Dual Boot ZorinOS und Win11 auf getrennten internen SSDs und getrennten EFIs).

I have a Brother monochrome laser printer/scanner about 11 years older than the color laser that @JustZorin has. It's an HL2280DW - a little tank that will last forever I think. :slight_smile: I've been waiting to run my Epson inkjet completely dry before I set this one up.

Would Brother MFC-J5340DW video you made apply to me when I get around to setting it up?

Now I had the chance for Installation along your recommandations and your video tutorial:

  • Downloaded from brother support page for Germany for Linux (deb) Service & Support: Software Download & mehr | Brother

  • gave the commands in Terminal as you recommanded:

    NUC:~$** sudo apt install gdebi
    NUC:~$** sudo systemctl stop cups-browsed
    NUC:~$** sudo systemctl disable cups-browsed
    Removed "/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/cups-browsed.service".
    NUC:~$** sudo system-config-printer
    -> the last command opened the printer window

Printer Drivers Install
the following 3 Drivers with GDEBI Package Installer:

  • mfcj5340dwpdrv-3.5.0-1.i386.deb
    -> after installing the printer appears within printer window
  • brscan5-1.5.1-0.amd64.deb
  • brscan-skey-0.3.4-0.amd64.deb

Afterwards printing jobs showed up in the queue but printing did not work. The printer window showed Message: "Waiting for printer to be available".

So, leaving the printer configuration as it is, I additonal unpacked and installed the linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.6-0.gz. During Installation I had to input the printer model: MFC-J5340DW, 3 package install verification: Y, the URI (printer Port /Address) and 2 times to confirm License agreements with: Y:

But unfortunally after reboot printer not working again...
Tried to delete the Printers and reworked the whole Procedure from beginning to end, but was not able to get it working again. It did not create the USB printer again. May be I did not purge everything exactly before new printer install?
Do you have ideas for

  • deleting all rests of printer configuration
  • install the printer permanently

Hey, Thanks for the update.
Strange that you needed the brother driver tool. I helped another forum member install their brother printer remotely using Team Viewer and there were no issues.

About to take our pooch :dog: out on a walk. When you launch

sudo system-config-printer

click on add printer, then it launches the interface for Network/USB options.
Click on continue, then it should ak you to install driver. First window should pull up all different brands of printers. Obviously pick Brother and scroll down the list and see if the driver is listed (it should usually have something along the lines of 'recommended CUPS/Gutenprint driver'.

Additionally, check the properties of the printer, especially paper size, make sure it is not set to Letter as this will also prevent printer from printing.

Thanks for your kind offer with team viewer brother printer help!
Printer is at working office. Tried several installations without success.
Printer queue looks available, but is not. Looks like problem with USB connection. As the printer works with Windows over USB this can not changed to IP connection.
I have installed team viewer, if your huge offer still exists, how could we come together? Tomorrow at 15:00 h German time = 14:00h UK Time would be possible for me. Or tell me your time for helping. 14:00h your time is earliest possibility for me. If you can't help don't mind, it is not terrible as printer works on windows...

Hi. When you say USB, you mean it is connected to a Windows machine at work via USB? If so Zorin will need to be in the same Workgroup or is it on a domain? How is it shared on Windows?
Are we talking 13 May? I am wondering if you need to install samba?

it is dual boot on the same Intel NUC Mini PC. So it is Windows booted or Zorin OS 18.1, never both of them. But it is essential the printer stays connected over USB.
