I have Chromium and Brave installed. When I try to open both of them they show up in System Monitor but do not open to the screen. Neither do they show up in Alt Tab task switching.
On the same computer I have Linux Mint 22 and Ubuntu working properly, so the internet connection does not seem to be the problem.
Evolution email opens but will not download any emails.
A Google drive doesn't open.
What information would you like me to provide? Thanks.
They may be opening -- Off screen.
Do they show on the panel as open applications?
No they don't. They are not open in another workspace, and they don't show with task switching.
You could try this:
Thanks, but doesn't apply to me. I am using a desktop computer with 2 monitors. They are working fine.
I have managed to install Firefox and that is working on this computer in Zorin.
So I don't know what the problem is.
Brave and Chromium are not working.
When you are using Wayland, did you try to switch to Xorg? Logout and at login click on your username, then a cogwheel appears at the bottom right. There select "Zorin Desktop on XOrg". Then login with your password.
As which package format are brave and chromium installed (Zorin package, flatpak...)?
Try launching these from the command line, which might reveal some additional errors as it starts up:
The commands is simply: brave-browser and chromium. If you have Google Chrome that's google-chrome.
You can also disable hardware acceleration and see if that makes a difference:
google-chrome --disable-gpu
brave-browser --disable-gpu
I don't know anything about Wayland and XOrg. I didn't try to switch between them.
I logged out, but couldn't see any cogwheel.
I tried both Zorin and Flatpak to see if they would work.
You have to click on Your Profile so that the Password Field apears. Only then You will see the Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner.
Still no Gear Icon. Tried all sorts of changes to my display. I have 2 monitors. The login goes to the secondary display for some reason. Even unplugged the left monitor. Still no Gear Icon.
Click the option to "Log in as another user."
That should make that gear icon appear.
Terminal commands worked - in part.
sudo nala install brave-browser
Brave now works. Then I went to do the same with Chromium and that didn't work. But I was able to reinstall it with Software app.
I installed Chromium with Flathub.
Brave is installed with Zorin OS, which was done via apt (using nala).
Which is better, Zorin OS or Flathub?
Opera and Firefox are working.
Firefox is very good, but apparently there are privacy concerns.
Anyway, it's good to have Brave and Chromium working again.
I don't know what caused the problem.
I don't have that option. I only have 1 user.
Brave and Chromium stopped working again.
Have you tried this?
That it worked, then stopped points to Hardware Acceleration.
OK, so what can I do about it? I tried
but it didn't fix the problem. Firefox continues to work, but not
Brave, Chromium or Opera.
For thoroughness, what manner did you use to try it?
Did you clear cache, then add that to the exec line of the .desktop file?
It should look like this here:
No, but I would need some instructions on what you are suggesting.
Yes
No. I never saw that.
