Cannot VNC from macOS to Zorin OS

Apparently I should be able to use vnc directly from macOS Finder using Sequoia (15.4) to connect to my Zorin OS box. However I've never been able to get it to work. Here are my remote settings:

I've seen a related topic here but I don't get as far any incompatibility error message. It simply keeps trying to connect and then eventually reports that it can't access the PC.

Both the Macbook and the Zorin OS PC are on the same local network. I can access the Zorin OS PC folders via Samba. It's just the remote access aspect that I can't get to work.

So...

  1. Should I expect this to work, or is the Remote Desktop feature in Zorin OS limited to other Linux PCs?

  2. What are the things I can check in terms of log files, firewalls, etc, to see what might be happening?

The VNC client in macOS is supposed to be standard and has been reported to work by other folks.

Any help is welcome. Thanks!

Have you thought about using Remmina Remote instead? This includes support for VNC:

If you are looking at file sharing I would use NFS.

I could, but it seems odd that Zorin OS has a remote desktop feature that I can't get to work so I'd rather see if there's some setting I'm missing or at least for someone to confirm that it isn't usable from macOS.

When you're trying to connect, are you at your Zorin desktop to be able to check if a popup is asking for permission to connect or not? I believe by default it will make the connection ASK for permission on the Zorin system (which if you're connecting remotely, isn't exactly ideal).

If you click the three dots beside "Enable Legacy VNC Protocol" there should be the default option of ask for permission, or allow the connection with (insert login information here).

Yay!! That was it. I enabled the password option, and it now prompts me for the password on the macOS side and once I've entered it, I get the desktop showing up as expected.

Much appreciated!
