Chat of piracy, hardware and Linux distros

Yes, I understood that after @Bourne explained that to me.

You know something I've never understood? Blueray devices have been a thing since the late 2000's right? So.....why haven't blueray burners been popular, why haven't we seen those? Each Blueray disk has a capacity of what 35GB single sided? But I haven't personally seen a blueray burner in my life.

Anyways, easy solution around this is a thumb drive AKA USB flash drive. Now those have been things since 1998, and I can tell you right now, they have increased in space capacity astronomically since their introduction.

Because we live in 2021, we dont need to burn when there are external devices. Usb sticks where low format and these days when you download a movie they are in mkv format. Smart tvs support mkv so why need a blu ray burner when you can have a remux.

I have a bluray in my computer. Zorin version 7 to 12 was on cd plate. When I started adventure with Zorin.

My first version is actually 16. So im pretty new to Zorin, but I started using Linux about 2 years ago.

Ah, confession time.
What was your first Linux distro?

Linux Mint, I liked that it resembled Windows 7 because I was familiar with it. Even up to this day I still use it. Linux Mint (Cinnamon) -> Manjaro KDE -> Arch (KDE) -> Zorin OS 16 Core (Gnome)

My thoughts on Linux Mint: I loved it, that's it, nothing to say about it. I just love it.

My thoughts on Manjaro KDE: I like that KDE is very customizable, but bugs haunted me, I kept having packages breaking on me even after downgrading.

My thoughts on Arch (KDE): I have a better experience on it than Manjaro, the Arch wiki is literally the best page to find knowledge about Linux. I ran Arch longer than anything else.

My thoughts on Zorin Os Core: it's literally Linux Mint but looks better out of the box. I didn't even bother to customize it much.

My thoughts on the community of the distros:
Manjaro: Follow the Rules and always mark as solution, I still answer on this forum.
Linux MInt: I never use the forum because the website looked ugly, yep the website looked ugly
Arch: didn't bother to make an account because I didn't needed it.
Zorin Os: Umm, what to say?

I also use it on my sub-machine.
It is important to familiarise oneself for various distros instead of just got hooked to one. That way you have a freedom to change your OS without any fear.

It's a sad state of affairs alright when Western countries can't compete with cheap labour and politics but we evolved from this ourselves if you can call it that, as western countries had the same principles as China with paying pittance to people and little burocracy which resulted in the industrial revolution. Unfortunately now innovation is suffering and its becoming evolutionary rather than revolutionary like it used to be.

This is true.
I am in the USA and I am a capitalist.
I have no illusions about it, though.

Capitalism is what sent the factories to cheaper countries. Capitalism gave us the Radium Girls.
It's interesting as I read anti-socialism comments, how striking it is that the flaws in Socialism describe Capitalism just as easily. Yet, the average person picks a side and sticks to it on all issues.
In order for any form of socialism to work, it must be moderated with Capitalism to provide reward and gains. In order for Capitalism to work, it must be moderated by some socialism to protect the workers from the greedy elites.

What is socialism? I'm confusion. Man, I learn so much from this forum, not just about Linux.

I'll admit I am a staunch Democratic Socialist which is a fancy way of describing Socialism developed through democratic principles where the is government controlled by "the people" but everyone pays their fair share into making the world better a place along with the government who shares the brunt of that responsibility. I am not going to get into which system is better argument because every type of government system has it pros and cons. In other words best put for me personally I am a native Canadian who likes Democratic Socialism and I am sticking to it...

Strange, doesn't your school teach you this stuff in history classes? The reason I ask, is because when I was in school, they taught this stuff in our classes. And we were required by law to take SAT's, to prove that we were learning the material, in order to graduate high school.

I would never consider myself a capitalist. Cause everytime I think of that word, I think of USA's unfettered capitalism, that results in small companies, becoming greedy corporations, and eventually global dominators.

There is nothing wrong making some money by providing a service or selling a product. But if your soul mission in life is to only make money, well, its my view you have lost site of the important things in life.

I look at celebrities the same exact way. If their soul mission is just to become super famous and rich, I'd say they lost focus. Its in my opinion, that if you become an actor, the goal should be to act, because you like acting.

And yes, I also agree that with many countries in the world, you have many government systems in place. You have democracies, dictatoriships, socialism, anti-socialism. You got all types, its quite interesting.

And whats even more interesting, is you got Americans born in America, with democratic freedoms including socialism to an extent. Yet some of those same Americans, like to speak out against socialism.

And where I think that is so hypocritical, is that eventually when these same people get old and frail and need government assistance. Their free to speak out against socialism, but when they need social security, oh they are totally onboard with that.

So ya, the social and economical dynamics within ones own country can be quite interesting and challenging, much less talking about other's countries systems lol.

Not old enough, I guess, my school didn't teach me anything like that. Ok so I'm born on US, so I'm actually a citizen. The reason I'm in Malaysia is because my parents come from Malaysia. And my grandmother's mother moved to Malaysia to escape war, famine etc.

So my grandmother (maternal) didn't have money they flew to the US to make some, they didn't have citizenship. But when my mother got pregnant she has basically born us there, and we got citizenship, and she got a green card or smthg I forgot.

Cool to learn a little bit about you Kedric. Do you think you will return to the US when you become an adult? If you do, the first thing you should do is start a computer business where you install Linux on computers then sell them.

We really need more people to do that. I was literally watching a video on this very topic, and they were discussing about how annoying it is, that in the year of 2021, there are practically no local shops that sell computers with Linux on them.

Even the very well known nationwide computer store chain called Micro Center doesn't have them. Linux just doesn't get enough respect IMO, and we need people to help change that.

I think computer stores that sell computer's with Linux on them would go far in improving the respect situation. I think that Microsoft and Apple have had people under their thumbs for far too long, it needs to change.

I don't know, returning to the US is idk, all my family is moving back but the economy is bad but family, I don't know what to do. My parents say leave it till you reach 18 then you pick yourself. I'm sure my grandparents will talk smack about my parents for sending me away but...

Even though I built and destroyed computers and laptops, I don't have experience selling computers. I don't know, will I be able to manage a computer store.

@Kedric Well that's a tough situation all I can tell you is what I know. I am a native born Canadian who lives in the U.S.A Do i like our U.S.A government no but I am still a an american citizen who enjoys the freedoms I do have. I am sorry about your situation and wish I could be more of a guide than someone who pretends he has all the answers when I truly don't. To be honest if I had a choice of countries to choose from it would be Canada because they tend to be nicer to outsiders but because of their socialist stance in government they are a lot harder to immigrate to than the U.S.A. Which goes back to my comment earlier on every government system has its pros and cons. I wish I could tell you what you want to hear and be that crystal clear guide but i apologize as I cannot be that person. I wish you the best on your travels and feel for you immensely. Time will work it self out just keep looking forward and everything will work itself out.

I am tired windows and apple. Linux for me is something I can learning , take some experiments - example what working or not.
I don't want judgement which one is like this western movie good, bad, ugly.
I tried all 3 from apple, windows and Linux. When I was a children more popular was windows for gaming. Linux also was younger, apple was expensive. Next 30 years when i am older 30 years I can sayed I don't need this all sh*t what is in windows. Apple OS exist only for apple software what isn't big but has a good security. Linux now is much better what I know he was before.
When I get 15 years old I started thinking about my future and building my dreams. I am also not living now in country where I was born, because economy changed for worst. If you are young, you can start building your life now. Malaysia what I know I order from there hard disk from Kuala Lumpur.
Important in your life doing things what is accepted for your suit.
This is your life and important take a jobb what gived you satisfaction. Like @StarTreker wrote you can try if you liked why not open a shop with a computers where people can feeling a free from monopoly and corporation.

Hope this is the right Thread
Pirated Versions are getting UPDATED and Ppl are leaving after a horrible non-Zorin experience

it is getting scary, HOW are they updating pirated Pro-Isos
To my shame, I did try one in a VM and to my knowledge, it seemed like they did the update in a VM, not the OS, and wrapped it all as an updated version of Zorin-Pro which will damage your reputation because this process will more often than not result in a corrupted iso that either will throw ppl off by not installing correctly or a buggy, laggy OS that will be one's only taste of Zorin OS

Almost all of the Iranian Software websites are putting up a Zorin-Pro iso, they never put up any Linux distro. one step removed are our comrades in Russia responsible; not Russiagating, certain private Russian websites proudly presented the 1st version 6 hours after the official release

Why would someone do this, my own experience

First off IM SO ASHAMED every single Persian dl website have uploaded it
And I mean 20, 30 major ones... We can't buy swear to god there is no way for transactions, otherwise, the concept of violating Copyright is a super important religious matter. What is owed to God can be forgiven BUT What is owed to people must be Paid in full, 1 cent of unforgiven debt to a person is a greater sin than all that is related to God

But blocked transactions aside there's this insane math...

I will try to explain the real COST VALUE of spending 40$
It's all related and in the end, you will be mind blown.
I have an Intel CPU worth 600$ right now in the U.S.
I can sell this in our domestic market for about 3mT
I found a 3rd party website to pay 40$ for a One-Time payment license for some software.
1st, I have to pay 1.5mT for opening a digital account (real money or PayPal or..)
2nd, I had to pay 0.5 as their "fee"
3rd: here comes the farcical part, 1$ = 30T + exchange rate 35T so 40$=1420T or 1.4mT
Sum: (1.5+5)mT as one-time-payment+1.4mT= 3.4mT
Actual Value of 600$ CPU in here < 40$ get it?
600$ = 8 units of Intel i7gen8
it's just... incomprehensible
