Is this something we could consider adding here, too? I know we have this "Chat about Zorin," but what if I want to chat about the weather, Astro Bot, or my new camera? 
i have thought about this before too . Some time ago i was on ubuntu forums and they had a category to "chat about anything" (or something like that i can't remember the exact name).
i thought it was nice
regulars would just chat about anything like in a chatroom , it's kinda a bonding thing yea?

There is The Lounge but you have to achieve level three status whatever that is. In the mean time, thread of randomness as suggested.
From what I can remember it is for Trusted members and you can loose it s fast as getting it .... I had it for some 2 years but now I'm just a member not even a Regular member .... think it happened when I took a couple of months off from the forum when I came back I had been demoted ..... not that I really mind just explaining what I know ....
I’m all for having a VIP-like lounge for the most active users but that’s different from watercooler.
Anyway, I just thought it’d be fun to have an open space for off topic discussions.
Yeah, when you take a long time off of the forum, suddenly permissions disappear, which is one of the things I don't like, especially when I put a lot of time and effort into this forum and helping people. But, once you start making posts again, you'll get access to the lounge again. I do think the forum software SOP needs a re-write though. lol The lounge is the off topic area for sure.

I just checked your analytics, you have 392 posts, and I've seen you on this forum for awhile, and you joined on the 27th of March. I think that makes you a regular around here for sure, and you should have access to the Lounge IMO. Maybe @AZorin can take a quick look at your account and grant you access.

anyway , doesn't matter to me . What i meant was in other forums there was a thread were users ,regardless of their status, could just , chat . Plus a more exclusive "lounge" for regulars .

Nothing stopping you from creating a watercooler off topic thread here. Or we could even simply edit the tite of this theread to be "Watercooler off-topic chit-chat" or something.
May be the creteria to acess the lounge is a bit strict, but the Zorins set the rules. Perhaps it need some adjustments.
There is a precedent for off-topic subjects to be aired here in "Chat about Zorin" section. e.g. Share your Favourite Food so methinks we could just rename/continue and use this thread, but would need active moderation not to get out of hand.
