Hello again.
Zorin OS 15.3

2 days back I began by trying to install Unetbootin, something I've successfully done many times before. This time it failed with the error message above.

I've tried several so called fixes from the 'net, all seeming to come back to the same error message1.

Assuming that as Unetbootin only partially installed and it was the author if its own demise, I've tried what few tricks I have in my notebook (paper and pencil type) to remove it. Failed at every turn.

I've cautiously searched my system files, hoping to find a Unetbootin folder I could remove, but nay.
I seem to have run into a fairly solid wall at this point and am beginning to move in circles.

The doc is a copy of all my Terminal commands from yesterday and today - in case it is helpful.
Cheers

Hmm, seems I can not upload a doc here, will paste it as another page.

How strange... It should be there. I have it:

Well that's silly then isn't it.
if you have it, how can I start it? :grinning:

Sorry about that... let me get it in the mail to you...

What is the output of

cat /usr/sbin/update-info-dir

Also:

cat /etc/environment

OK, but before I catch the cat, something worked as we now have uninstalled unitbootin. However, we are now back to the PPA issue from last ThursdaY - not sure if that is progress?
Should I still run the cat thing?

I have checked the Launchpad PPA and you have it correctly entered there.

Are you using a Proxy or VPN?
Are you connected to the net?

EDIT: Yep, your last reply just shows the answer to both questions:

Here is the issue.
The export function should not be used in /etc/environment. That value (export) is for use in your User Profile (~/.profile) to export that value to your Environment File.

no, no, yes by wire not WIFI

Cheers mate - I'm awfully glad we cleared THAT up!

Ok, if you are not using a Proxy, then your /etc/environment file needs a bit of cleaning.
Please see my edited post above...
Not using any proxy, remove the

lines from /etc/environment

sudo -i

Launch your perferred File manager...
Navigate to /etc/environment
Right click and open environment with your preferred text editor
Remove those lines
SAVE the file

Uhhhmmm:

Seems to be AWOL

It's not a folder - it is a file ... Scroll Down
OR
Start typing in the open window environment and the File Manager should take you to the file.

ahhhhaaaa

Ok, opened file, deleted said lines (didn't leave much) but unable to save, did I want to replace, yes, sorry, you don't have permission. (file is Read only)
I'm thinking I should be doing this in terminal, but how?

sudo nano /etc/environment

or

sudo vim /etc/environment

The previous instructions I think were not clear:

Using sudo -i was to elevate terminal to root. Then within the Root elevated terminal, launch your file manager elevated to root.
