Trying to drag and drop files from Nautilus to Chromium browser, and vice versa, images from Chromium to Nautilus, and it 90% of time never works. The 10% of the time is only dragging files to the browser and I cant have the browser window fully maximized, i have to keep tinkering with the window size of nautilus and the browser to get it to work. A real headache.
All this usually worked fine in Zorin 16. The only thing that didnt work in Zorin 16 was when I dragged a browser URL to a USB folder, it would not work just like how nothing is working with Zorin 17. But everything else worked for Zorin 16, I could drag and drop URL's in non-USB folders.
I tried every option for the chrome flag: Preferred Ozone platform
And the only thing that changed is that now something did transfer with the drag and drop, but it still wasnt right. I would drag/drop an image and the image would turn into a text file. See screenshot:
I think what it is, is any image on a webpage has a URL to it also, an image URL. And Nautilus is only accepting the URL info that the browser clipboard data is sending it.
UPDATE: after restarting Zorin or messing with the flag, not sure which, but now I can drag things into my browser perfect. Its just that dragging things from the browser hasnt been fixed yet. I can drag URL's fine, just not images.
Default Behavior of Chromium Image Drag-and-Drop to Desktop
Based on the provided search results, it appears that the behavior of dragging images from Chromium to the desktop has changed over time.
In the past, dragging images from Chrome to the desktop was a default behavior, but it has been altered in newer versions of Chromium. According to the search results, specifically Chromium 85.0.4163.0, a change was made to prevent files, including images, from opening in the current tab when dragged over the browser window. Instead, a new tab is opened.
Additionally, some users have reported that running Chrome as an administrator or having certain settings enabled (e.g., “Touch initiated drag and drop”) can cause issues with dragging images to the desktop.
However, it’s essential to note that there is no definitive answer indicating that dragging images from Chromium to the desktop is blocked by default. Instead, the behavior appears to have evolved, and users may need to adjust settings or workarounds to achieve the desired result.
In summary:
Newer versions of Chromium (e.g., Chromium 85.0.4163.0) may not drag images to the desktop by default, instead opening a new tab.
Running Chrome as an administrator or having certain settings enabled can also affect image dragging behavior.
There is no single, definitive answer indicating that dragging images from Chromium to the desktop is blocked by default; instead, the behavior may vary depending on the specific version and settings.
Thanks, i just tried it on firefox, and dragging/dropping for pics and URL's works fine, from the browser to file managers. So it does appear to be a Chromium based browser issue and their new updates. I will see if there is a flag I can adjust.
