Error notification - What does it mean, please?

Hello All,
I've been using Linux/ZorinOS for a few months not and all was going well, but several times I have noticed this error notification appear, a red dot/exclamation mark in the taskbar. I have attached a screenshot to show the text, I have no idea what it means or how to fix it. I run regular updates but despite that, this error often appears. Can anyone please help?

Thanks for any help/advice.

Andrew.

Try to run the update from the terminal, and see what comes back from it. Search for "terminal" in the application menu list and run:

sudo apt update

Hiya,

Thanks for your reply. I did this and it appears to be all OK and updated:

I restarted and this error doesn't appear now, but it has appeared a few times in recent weeks. Perhaps the update was interrupted and caused this?

Andrew.

@HenshawAC , yeah I've had the same thing and it isn't exactly a "bad error" at all, it's more a warning notification telling you there's something like software to update or install and it needs attention.

I wondered if I get it because I use a VPN and it messes with the mirrors because I also get a similar thing in Mint Cinnamon - in fact I get a lot more with Mint than Zorin.

It's nothing to worry about, just do as zenzen said, do an update - upgrade and it will go away. I don't know if you also use a VPN... ... I go to a location close to home, run "nala fetch", to get the latest, fastest mirrors, then update... and that clears it up.

I noticed from the screenshot your software. Updates are coming from Czech server. Launch Software Updater, click on 'Stop', then click on 'Settings'. Go to left-most tab and change your software sources to Main Server.

Try to clear the cached packages, maybe that's causing trouble when there are certain packages updates available:

sudo apt autoremove
sudo apt autoclean

Run these commands, one at the time, and make a note of the output in case it's trying to remove something sensitive. It's probably safe to do so anyway, but at least we can take a look at it to try and figure out what may be causing the issue.

Yes that's OK because I'm in CZ.

Even so, we generally recommend setting source to "Main Server" instead of National/Regional server for best results.

Noted, I followed your advice and changed it to Main Server.

Thanks mate!
