Walked into to all 3 monitors black with one that had a blinking cursor. I could type but now linux commands work. over the last 3 nights every night the computer restarts.
here is a screenshot of the log page after the restart.
do you have any software programs running that will put the system into shutdown/reboot/log off after the software has finished its function. like backup software.
best of luck Steve ..
" X2dgtk is a desktop application associated with GNOME that is typically launched during user session startup. It is related to the user-dirs-update-gtk service, which manages user directory configuration (like Documents, Downloads, etc.) in a graphical manner.
From the search context, it appears that x2dgtk is involved in a known issue where the system logs errors such as:
Failed to start Application launched by gnome-session-binary
No PIDs left to attach to the scope's control group, refusing
Failed with result 'resources'
These errors are generally considered harmless but can clutter journalctl logs. The root cause is often a misbehaving or outdated .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart/ (e.g., user-dirs-update-gtk.desktop ). To resolve the issue, users can temporarily move the problematic file to a backup location (e.g., ~/Desktop/backup/ ) to prevent it from launching at boot—but caution is advised , as removing essential autostart entries may affect desktop functionality.
The name "x2dgtk" likely stems from a URL-encoding of x2d (which stands for "x-dash") in log messages, where x2d is a hex representation of a hyphen (- ), so x2dgtk is effectively x-dgtk , a shorthand for a GUI-based user directory updater.
Only to have asked that: Did You checked the Monitor Settings of each one? And when You go to Setings>Power and Settings>Privacy>Lock Screen how are these set up?
have you checked the AMD site for graphic/GPU driver files
i have a Ryzen 7 5825u CPU/GPU in a desktop system
and have found that the AMD radeon driver files have sorted several problems
such as flickering display going from bright to dim. https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/linux-drivers.html
you would want the Ubuntu driver files as Zorin is Ubuntu based.
best of luck Steve ..
