''Fake'' Linus meets the ''real'' Linus

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I saw a Video that I want share here. Have fun with it.

As I am subbed to LTT, I saw the video as well, and I thought it was fun, watching those two interact with each other. I also loved the personality of Linus torvalds, over that of Linus Sabastian any day of the week.

Good on Linus for reading Linus's book, he knows more about him then I do. I just know he started Linux, before it expanded into the many distro's that it is today. A few jabs were thrown at each other, I think Linus Torvalds came out on top most of the time.

And I am totally with him on social networking, its not our thing, we didn't really grow up with it, we don't have a need to seek validation from other's, were anti-social, we do our own things, and don't want lots of people complicating our lives, with their own mess.

Also, while that transparent screwdriver is really cool, I had already bought his stealth screwdriver months ago, I don't see a need to pay more then I did pre-tarrifs, just to get transparent.

I also love that case he chose for the computer build, I would choose that one too, cause of the expert level of airflow you'll get, keeping that thing cool. I also agree with the sentiment, build a high end machine, just 1-tier bellow the best.

Thats what my notebook is! When I picked my machine out, I could have gone with the Core I9 CPU, I'd pay more for it, and it was known to overheat, cause even the dual fans and copper heat pipes, couldn't tame it! I went with the Core I7, and its been rock solid ever since.

I also use a cooling pad, so when I let my computer boost clocks, it gets extra cooling, so the temps only hit 80C momentarily, but usually kept cool around 70C. If I run normal clocks, I usually see it around 34C doing nothing.

I love Linus Torvalds philosophy on life, computers, & coding. Both Linus's are successful, for completely different reasons. Between each other, I think they both bring a lot to the community.

Also, before we had Linus Sabastian, we had 3DGameMan, who brought us reviews, back in the early days of gaming, circa 2000's. No kid today knows who he is, but those of us who are older, we know who he is, he literally started the program on video reviews & gaming.

Unfortunately, Rodney Renalds got tired of doing video reviews, right around the time LTT was starting to get big, Rodney just up and disappeared. He since has returned, but he doesn't make the kind of video's he used to, he just gave Linus the torch IMO.

Anyways, great video, I immensely enjoyed it, I still think Linus Torvalds is the better man, and its obvious to anyone who watches the video. Linus Sabastian cares too much what others think of him, and is too hooked up with social networking, and selling and advertising his merch. Linus Torvalds keeps it real, love that guy.

And we have learned from the Video one essential Thing: We now have to use Fedora Gnome like the Master himself, hahaha!

For some reason, I always found LTT videos really interesting to watch, even if I've never built my own computer or anything. This one looks promising!

I'm a Floatplane subscriber, so I've got to see all the extra videos too. It was so cool to see Linus T and hear about his philosophy, and what he likes and doesn't like about some Linux flavours. The video of Linus T hanging out with the crew of LTT was great too - never seen them all look so nervous and shy.

It is worth mentioning that both Riley (in Tech News) and Linus have talked about the release of Zorin_OS 18, BUT that neither of them understand Zorin_Pro! "Why should you pay for Zorin when you can get Mint for free?" kind of comments. That proves that Zorin_Pro is misunderstood by quite a lot of people, I've seen many, many people not getting the fact that Core, Lite and Education are completely FREE of charge, that they're being missed completely by some is a bit frustrating too.

I think we need to be vocal in correcting this misunderstanding as much as possible. It might also be a good idea for the Zorin brothers to take a look at how Zorin_OS, and in particular, Zorin_OS PRO is marketed. A lot of Linux users don't get that it's a way of supporting the project, not having to pay for a professional version.

I thought Linus Junior acted like a 13 year old schoolgirl meeting her Boy Band teen idol ... I thought Linus senior showed an interesting and unfamiliar side of himself.

Yeh I have seen a few comments that even called PRO a scam because "they charge for free software". And to be honest when I first bought 16 pro the website was a lot more clear that pro didn't offer things that were not free anyway, it was just a way to show support, get email support and have more things pre-done for you. Which plenty of windows refugees would like. The page for 18 pro does seem to have lost that nuance which makes it harder to defend. Zorin does have to be careful it doesn't get a reputation of being mint with a fee because it's name is appearing in a lot of linux groups these days. It is getting traction it seems.

Zorin popularity has been popping up very much on articles and on YouTube. I read mostly great positive comments about Zorin 18.

Recent articles like the one down below, mentions Zorin Pro and how making a donation keeps the distro and the project alive:

I don't agree with the "and you shouldn't either", but it's probably hyperbolic because I think Linux should always be free, but I think there is merit to donating and if you are getting the benefit and can spare some money then it would be the right thing to do because it helps support the thing you benefit from.

Hence I had no qualms about buying Zorin Pro, it was more the supporting it than the 'extra' which I technically didn't need to buy, but I suppose the difference is, I knew up front but not sure if everyone who sees it does in that if anything all Zorin Pro buys you is convenience and a means to support the project.

But I loved how much they've focus on an experience that helps people transition from Windows into Linux especially following the drop of Win 10 support. So that's how I justified my purchase. And I guess I 'get' why they've done this approach, because I guess people are more likely to give you money if it felts like they get something in return and people will pay for convenience.

For sure. There's no "pay to win" as a gamer might say.

I did enjoy Torvalds' contemptuous dismissal of Musk (talking about assessing developer performance by lines of code written): "Anyone who thinks that is a good metric is too stupid to run a tech company".

You can take the man out of Finland ...

  1. Write line of code
  2. Collect prize token
  3. Goto 1

Well if that reward mechanism is universally accepted by BIG TECH, it would explain exponential increase in software i.e. BIG BLOAT. Send them back to programming in machine code I say.

Super hard agree here. It needs to be said with more clarity that Pro is really a support method more than a requirement. Core needs to be mentioned in such a way that people spreading the word about Zorin OS actually realize it's just as free as Mint.
