Good morning to the whole community,
I am asking if you could kindly help me with a folder color problem.
I followed this guide:
I was able to install in yaru theme and when I am in Home folder I can color the folders in the desktop.
But when I go to the desktop the folders are not colored.
How can I proceed? I think there is a step I am missing.
Thank you in advance for your help.
kind regards,
If you're using the context menu you'll have to jump through a few extra hoops. But this will depend on how you installed and what stesp you're actually taking. So, could you please clarify that?
Good morning thank you for your availability,
yes, that's right: you change the colors of the folders in the file manager, but not the ones in the desktop.
The yaru theme is enabled using Zorin appearence.
For ZenZen: I applied all the suggested steps:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pakaoraki/yaru-colors-folder-color sudo apt update sudo apt install yaru-colors-folder-color
sudo apt install folder-color
kind Forpli,
I followed the guide you shared with me.
I entered the yaru folder color change,
then however it suggests to install folder color.
that I should remove folder color and leave only yaru folder color?
Ah, yes. The problem is simply that folder-colors is an extension to the file manager, Nautilus. But the desktop itself is actually a separate component in Zorin OS. It won't automatically read those changes and follow them. This happens with any theme, even the default one.
To make this change you'll have to go in manually and change the folder icon manually yourself, by right-click on the folder icon → properties → click on the folder icon. The icon set should be available in /usr/share/icons. For example: /usr/share/icons/Yaru-olive/32x32@2x/places/folder-purple.png.
I'm sure you could use the terminal for this, but just like there are some tasks that are easier done with a command or two, some are easier by just pointing and clicking on things:
This will bring up a file picker, where you can navigate the file system to find the icon you wish to use.
In this particular example, given the location of where icons are stored, I prefer to type it out. Press Ctrl+L and this will focus on the "address bar", where you can type the path to the icon you want to use:
