Freezing problem with Zorin OS when unlocking computer with Steam (flatpak) running

I’ve observed that when I launch Steam (in flatpak) on Zorin OS and lock my laptop, if I wait for 2 minutes and then enter my session password, Zorin OS becomes completely unresponsive. I’m then forced to perform a hard restart (REISUB). This issue doesn’t occur on other operating systems with the Gnome DE (Fedora, Ubuntu, Linux MINT).

System Information:

HP EliteBook 850 G6
32GB of RAM
CPU: Intel i7-8565U (8) @ 4.600GHz
GPU: Intel WhiskeyLake-U GT2 [UHD Graphics 620]
GPU: AMD ATI Radeon 540X/550X/630 / RX 640 / E9171 MCM
Linux ZorinOS 6.5.0-28-generic #29~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Apr 4 14:39:20 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

However, I’ve found several “solutions” on my own, as I haven’t seen anyone discussing this problem on the Internet. The first solution was to install the snap, but it no longer works because it has been completely discarded by Canonical. The solution I currently use is to install Flatseal and delete the “org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver” line in the “Session Bus” section, which resolves my problem.

Can anyone explain what’s happening?

Sorry, I don't game on GNU/Linux other than native games. I promised myself I would fire up my old Windows PCs for gaming but mainly now play FPS on PS4 Pro. Plus, first thing to go post install on any distro using snap and flatpak is to remove them!

I'll recomend that you using the .deb packages of Steam, simple;

sudo apt install steam

flat and snap is just headache, because they run in sandboxes.

This is the solution

I just faced something similar but using the official Steam installer guide from the Zorin help center, which is through apt I believe. My computer turned off its screen due to me not touching the mouse during the download, and when I unlocked it, about a minute afterward, everything froze. Steam kept freezing itself (Force Quit / Wait dialog). I had sufficient memory and everything, my music kept playing, but the entire display system froze. Couldn't move my mouse, change tty, or do anything other than hard restart.
