GMX Mail Error with Mozilla Firefox for Zorin 1.0 Version 132.0 (64-bit)

I use Zorin OS 17 Pro and Mozilla Firefox for Zorin 1.0 Version 132.0 (64-bit).

Currently I get an error after logging in to gmx.net
Your browser is not supported.
You are trying to log in to your GMX mailbox with an outdated browser. For security reasons, this is not fully possible. We therefore recommend that you use an up-to-date browser.* ”

Can you please fix this error? @AZorin

I have tested with flatpak version Firefox with no errors. but I don't want to have an extra flatpak Firefox.

Have you tried Firefox ESR?

it works with all other versions but not with your own Zorin version. But I don't really want two versions of Firefox on my PC.

Error also only since last update Zorin update

When I moved away from Zorin to Devuan, Firefox ESR is the default browser and is Enterprise ready. In the video I made on the Beta version of Zorin 17, I replaced the standard Firefox with the Extended Service Release version, which is the only version of Firefox that can be 'locked down' for Enterprises and Education establishments:

There's nothing special about the Firefox version that ships with Zorin OS. It's installed from the Mozilla repositories directly. Are you sure you don't have anything installed or configured separately?

Did you tried to delete the Cache and the Cookies?

to do that got to ''Einstellungen'' > ''Datenschutz & Sicherheit'' and there to this:

There click on ''Daten entfernen'' and You get this Window:

Set it up like on the Picture and click on ''Löschen''. But to say that: It will delete all Data's and Cookies. So, you will be logged out on every Service where you are automatically logged in.

everything is already done cookies and cache deleted.
can you click on “Accept” on the right button on the gmx page and continue?
Does this work for you?

Yes, it works fine no matter which option I click on the consent popup. You may want to reach out to them and ask them about it.

The "your browser is unsupported" is a complete fiction the vast majority of the time since web browsers (at least the major vendors) adhere to a standard specification. What's most likely happening here, as it's often the case, is that this site is loading ads and/or tracking junk from ad networks like Google & friends that can detect your browser and then block you with a false reason to get you to use another browser (talking about anti-competitive practices).

On Firefox, you can install Chameleon to make your browser report a different user agent and blend it. I'm sure you'll stop seeing the popup right away.

This isn't a unique occurrence:

I have now uninstalled Firefox for Zorin and installed the Flatpak version and it works.
When I install the Zorin 1.0 version again, I get the same error on gmx.

With the Flatpak version 132 everything works, that is strange

installed the Zorin Firefox version again = error appears
Version Flatpak = no error
Strange, isn't it?

Do you have them (Flatpak and APT) set up exactly the same? Same Settings, same Browser Plug-in's?

yes set absolutely identic.
That's why I don't understand it and it's very strange

Hmm ... that is strange. In other Cases there was mostly the Flatpak-Version the Problem because it runs containerized and when You use the APT Version it works.

I don't use gmx, I use web.de and there I don't have Problems with the Browser. Can you say how Your settings are set up and what Browser Plug-in's do you use?

I have tested both browser versions without browser plug-ins and with default settings. To avoid error source

Just another thought, are you using Wayland compositor instead of xorg?

from the beginning Wayland and before the last update it always worked with Firefox Zorin 1.0

So does Zorin Apt/Deb package of firefox work in xorg? I disable Wayland completely as a matter of course if I were to run Zorin which I no longer do.

Okay, I was able to fix my error. :star_struck: :yum:

Step 1:
Remove Firefox for Zorin
sudo apt remove Firefox

Step 2:
Remove Flatpak Firefox via Software

Step 3:
Open files and show hidden files.
Remove all folders from Firefox

Step 4:
sudo apt install firefox

Login with Firefox account

Bug fixed, now the Zorin 1.0 Firefox 132 works again

Unfortunately, I do not know what caused this error   :face_with_head_bandage:

Probably some site settings cached from elsewhere or something. As usual, a classic turn off and back on was the right answer!

I have only been using Linux for 2 months. I'm just happy that I was able to solve this
