Gnome Info

What version of Gnome is the Zorin desktop based off of right now?

Zorin OS 16 is on Gnome 3.38.

Okay so this really isn't a big deal but I tried to install gnome (I thought it would open as a separate DE I could choose on the log in screen)

Evidently... nothing happened other than my icon theme resetting.

However, my non-logged in screen looks different. Any idea how to change the background and settings for the lock screen?

Not a big deal though.

Can you please detail what you did?
Need to know in order to know what changes could have been made.

I ran
sudo apt install vanilla-gnome-desktop vanilla-gnome-default-settings

Ah... ok. Good choice...

Vanilla Gnome is different from default Gnome.
Did you install:

sudo apt install vanilla-gnome-default-settings

Ah. I thought it was separate and wanted to try it as compared to Zorin's implementation. It looks like they merged and only the lock screen changed. Anyways what I sent (sudo apt install vanilla-gnome-desktop vanilla-gnome-default-settings is what I put into the terminal)

Ok, now run in terminal:

sudo update-alternatives --config gdm3.css

I think I will need to look into this further:

I do not use that desktop, so some studying is needed...

Alright, thanks. No pressure or anything, it's really not a big deal.

Can you please check which display manager you are using?

cat /etc/X11/default-display-manager

Are you able to take a photo of your login screen to show?

Yes, I will in a second, as I'm busy and forgot earlier.

It takes the same accent color as my gtk theme with a weird garish green-brown-grey color backdrop

Just curious, would there be a way to install stock gnome if I wanted to? Don't plan to, just curious.

Unless you removed Zorin Desktop, it should be installed. You merely installed Vanilla Gnome alongside of it. You can remove Vanilla Gnome to return to the stock Gnome Desktop.
I believe you should be able to choose at login whether to login on Gnome or Vanilla.

That Login Screen looks a lot like the Plymouth Splash screen...

I know how to choose which DE to boot into (I tried out KDE out of boredom), and Vanilla Gnome wasn't there.

When I try to switch DE, I get

(I installed Plasma and don't want to remove it in case it breaks something and I don't have plasma settings on my system)

Ah, then I suppose Vanilla Gnome just alters gnome.

As you can see, Zorin Desktop is still present (Gnome) however.
