Got Zorin on my tablet for my kid - it's great!

My young child loves music, she's been singing the scales and belting out songs since before she was two. She's not much older than that, but I've been letting her use my iPad for Spotify, and it's created some issues as she accidentally gets into my messages, emails, and work files (not to mention throwing it around).

So, I got her a Panasonic FZ-G1 ToughPad with Win10 preinstalled. I immediately got rid of Windows and tried both Mint and Zorin on it. Mint didn't seem to understand scrolling on a touch screen, so that trial ended quickly.

Zorin worked out of the box - it just needed a few little tweaks. I put 17 pro on it and used a desktop layout that's better for a touch screen. I also had to enable the little button that allows you to toggle the onscreen keyboard off and on (somewhere in the settings). I changed the power settings so that it doesn't sleep as often, and once I got everything set up, I made it forget all internet connections.

My daughter can now listen to her downloaded Spotify playlist on a tablet without getting into any trouble, and I don't have to worry about the device being creepy and spying on her. Thank you, Zorin!

Maybe she will create a Zorin OS theme tune someday? :musical_note:

Oh oh, kids tend to do that don't they, get into things they arn't supposed to. I was that way, I even had to try every switch on the wall to see what they did lol. I have a family member, when they were a kid, mistreated a handheld gaming device, put tons of scratches in the screen. I literally paid 200 dollars for that thing! Oh well

I am surprised Panasonic are still around, they were showing signs of a company dying in the 2000's, with terrible audio equipment they were putting out. Additionally, I'm surprised Panasonic put out a computer based product, such as a tablet!

Now thats using your noggin, putting Zorin OS on it, Windows just got the eviction notice. Also, kudos to you for figuring out a way to setup Zorin, to use a button on the device itself, for onscreen keyboard. Great job!

Thats smart! We live in a time where there are lots of creepers on the net, best way to protect young girls, is to keep them off the net. (At least till their old enough to be responsible and know the dangers)

We'll see. The kid is extremely talented for her age. And she loves making up songs... especially about cats. If Zorin ever uses as a cat in its logo, they'll have her sold!

I had no idea a product like this was on the market. I searched for Windows tablets and Dell makes a rugged one, built with kids in mind. But it was a laptop with a keyboard. My toddler needs something she can chuck down the stairs or into the bathtub and it won't skip a beat.

Much agreed. I'll wait until she's close to 30!
